Kelly reviews Accidentally Demonic by Dakota Cassidy

accidentally demonicTITLE: Accidentally Demonic

CHARACTERS: Clayton Gunnersson & Casey Schwartz
AUTHOR: Dakota Cassidy
NARRATOR: Meredith Mitchell
RUNTIME: 10 hours & 49 Minutes
AUDIO PUBLICATION DATE: May 30, 2014
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The devilish new novel from the national bestselling author of The Accidental Human

When mild-mannered Casey Schwartz wakes up in jail, she has no memory of how she got there. But after her sister, Wanda, bails her out, Casey has more to deal with than a foggy memory-like abrupt mood swings and fireballs shooting from her fingertips. But things really head south when a vampire shows up on her doorstep…

Vampire Clayton Gunnersson is seriously hot. And seriously taken-by a demon. In a ritual gone wrong, Clayton tried to get rid of his unwanted bond, but spilled some demonic blood on Casey, getting her possessed in the process. Now, Casey has to share her body and manage to keep her growing attraction to Clayton in check, because falling for her demon’s boyfriend just might get Casey killed-from the inside out.

REVIEW:
In Accidentally Demonic we get to finally met Wanda long lost sister Casey. Unfortunately it begins with Casey calling Wanda from jail. But that is just the beginning of Casey’s problems. Seems Casey has a little problem with fireballs, floating, horns and a very hot vampire.

Clayton has been living a lie for years. Okay more like centuries. But when he thinks has a way to rid himself of his demons he jumps at it. Sadly, things didn’t go according to plan. Now Clay’s problems include the cute Casey Schwartz.

Another fun book from Ms. Cassidy. I really liked Casey and Clay’s story. At times the story was a little slow. And there were a few times that I thought to myself “What why is this happening?” or “When did that rule change?” But as the story went on I did get my questions answered. Looking forward to the next story in this series.

As always Ms. Mitchell does a great job. My only issue with this audio version was there was a lot of yelling that does not translate very well.

AUTHOR: Dakota Cassidy
NARRATOR: Meredith Mitchell
PUBLICATION DATE: February 3, 2013
RUN TIME: 8 Hours & 3 Minutes
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N |Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
From national bestselling author Dakota Cassidy comes the latest in a series that “gets better and better with each book” (Bitten By Books).

Firefighter McAllister “Mick” Malone knows he has a protective streak, especially when it comes to his deceased best friend’s sister, Tessa. But after twenty-five years of verbal sparring, Mick can’t help but notice that their recent arguments have started to feel a lot like foreplay. And while Tessa knows exactly what to say to get him going, Mick is thrown for a loop when he actually starts breathing fire.

Antique-store owner Tessa Preston has loved Mick Malone since she was ten years old—not that she’d ever admit it. Fighting with Mick is the only thing keeping her from an embarrassing romantic confession, but when the sexy firefighter accidentally ingests some ancient dragon scales masquerading as powdered aspirin, Tessa finds herself handling something much hotter than long-simmering sexual tension

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Oh man!! It has been a wild ride over the last nine books, but I am finally catch up with Ms. Cassidy’s Accidentals Series. And already looking forward to the next adventure. In Accidentally Dragon we get all the normal cast of characters (Nina, Wanda & Marty) plus we get to see a little bit of each of the other characters (Darrel, Arch, Casey, Katie, Jeanine and the all the boys). And of course we get our newest Accidentals Mick and Tessa.
I loved Mick and Tessa. Loved how this story opens with Mick catching Tessa’s store on fire. Oops. Loved to see these two dance around each other. It was heartbreaking to learn the reason it took Mick & Tessa so long to get along. And oh my goodness baby dragon. Love love love little Noah!!
I so can’t wait for the next installment in this series. I can’t wait to see how much softer Nina can be (the ooey gooey marshmallow that she is).
As always Ms. Mitchell does an amazing job of bring these character to life and telling the stories that keep me coming back for more.
If you have not started this series. You really should! It is fun, snarky and full of awesomeness!!

Natasha reviews Serena by Ron Rash

AUTHOR: Ron Rash
PUBLICATION DATE: August 1, 2008
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
**Soon to be a Motion Picture starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper**
The year is 1929, and newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton travel from Boston to the North Carolina mountains where they plan to create a timber empire. Although George has already lived in the camp long enough to father an illegitimate child, Serena is new to the mountains—but she soon shows herself to be the equal of any man, overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving her husband’s life in the wilderness. Together this lord and lady of the woodlands ruthlessly kill or vanquish all who fall out of favor. Yet when Serena learns that she will never bear a child, she sets out to murder the son George fathered without her. Mother and child begin a struggle for their lives, and when Serena suspects George is protecting his illegitimate family, the Pembertons’ intense, passionate marriage starts to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning.
Rash’s masterful balance of violence and beauty yields a riveting novel that, at its core, tells of love both honored and betrayed.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts This is a dark tale. Serena and her husband Pemberton are very dark entities indeed. They are entangled in a dark love story that envelopes the both of them so completely it shadows the rest of the world. They only care for one-another and power – and will destroy or kill anyone who stands in their way. That includes investors, business rivals and even the 18 year old mother of a 2 year old Pemberton got pregnant before marrying Serena. All of the characters in this book have distinct personalities and something hidden behind the surface. I will say, the last quarter of the book was very stressful and full of angst – which I love. Very good read!

Kelly reviews One Grave At A Time by Jeaniene Frost

One Grave At A TimeTITLE: One Grave At A Time
SERIES #: Night Huntress #6
CHARACTERS: Cat & Bones
AUTHOR: Jeaniene Frost
PUBLICATION DATE: Aug 30, 2011
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Having narrowly averted an (under)world war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans’ voodoo queen just keeps on giving-leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit.

REVIEW:
Cat is still having some after effects from her involvement in the ghouls vs vampire war. The war might be over and it might look like things are quieting down for Cat & Bones, but that is far from reality. Cat is asked to help hunt down a ghost who likes to kill. This killer might prove to be the trickiest yet and how far is Cat willing to go to save his next victims?

This was not my favorite Cat & Bones book. But I am guessing that this book was intended as a build up to the next book. None the less any time with Cat, Bones and their friends is always worth the trip.

REVIEW:
I had the honor of listening to this book on audio. Angela Dawe is one of my top 10 favorite narrators. I fell in love with Ms. Dawe when I picked up an audio version of Ms. Singh’s Psy/Changeling series. Ms. Dawe does such an amazing job with her voices both male and female. I can’t wait to listen to more of Ms. Dawe’s work.
Here is a brief review of each novella
Secrets at Midnight by Nalini Singh: As always Ms. Singh blows me away with her stories. I serious am in love with everything that Ms. Singh writes. Bastien and Kirby’s story is so sweet. I love Bastien when he was giving Mercy a bad time and so glad to see that he finally got his HEA. Oh and Kirby is the perfect feisty mate for him. Pup-cubs & Kitten cutlets!!! Loved this book!!

Magic Steals by Ilona Andrews: This was my first Ilona Andrews book in this series (never fear I have the all the books and will now be going back and reading). I may have to revisit this story again after I am catch up on the series. I really enjoyed Jim & Dali’s story.

Lucky Charms by Lisa Shearin: I have to admit I had my doubts when I started this story. Turns out I was wrong!!! I really really liked this story and am super excited that this is the beginning of a new series (already picked up book 1). Can’t wait for more Mak & Ian! Although I think there needs to be more kissing in the story 😀 Just saying..

The Beast of Blackmoor by Milla Vane: Out of the four this was my least favorite. I just didn’t connect with the world or the characters that much.

Kelly reviews Enslave Me Sweetly by Gena Showalter

enslave me sweetlyTITLE: Enslave Me Sweetly
SERIES #: Alien Huntress #2
CHARACTERS: Eden Black & Lucius Adaire
AUTHOR: Gena Showalter
NARRATOR: Justine Eyre
PUBLICATION DATE: June 6, 2006
ORDER LINKS:Amazon | B&N | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Eden Black walks among humans, protecting them from the murderous evil of other-worlders who abduct and enslave. And though she appears to be human herself, Eden is an alien, a Raka, distinguished by her golden hair and skin, and gifted with the ominous ability to kill without remorse — and with total accuracy. That is, until the fateful night she has one shot to eliminate her target, a human slaver — and misses.

“Failure” is not in Eden’s vocabulary. Neither is “partner” — but that’s what she is forcibly assigned after recovering from her disastrous mission. A sexy, steely-nerved human agent, Lucius Adaire enjoys nothing more than sparking the fury — and rousing the desire — of the fiery female assassin too proud to admit defeat. Locked in an assignment they cannot afford to lose, Lucius and Eden find themselves bound in two high-stakes, heart-pounding games: the sensual web of kill or be killed, and the erotic dance of seduction.

REVIEW:
Eden Black is a trained killer who always gets her prey. Unfortunately always is not true now. Her latest target slipped away and Eden was gravely hurt. Now Micheal (her father and boss) has teamed her up with a human. The last thing in the world that Eden wants is a partner. But there is something about Agent Lucius Adaire that draws Eden. Something that may just get them both killed.
Lucius is a hired killer who is willing to do anything for the right price. So when the chance to work with the lovely Eden Black comes up he jumps at the chance. But quickly he finds himself bested again and again by the sweet looking Raka, who is anything but sweet.

I really enjoyed Enslave Me Sweetly. I loved the tension between Eden and Lucius. I loved Agent Luke and how Eden used that to her advantage. My only real issue with this story was how quickly Eden was able to employ the help of the Targon King. Okay employ might be a to gentle word for blackmail and the threat of cutting off male body parts. But all in all I enjoyed this book.

I listened to Enslave Me Sweetly on audio and had the amazingly talented Justine Eyre . Justine does a great job of bring these characters to life for me. If you are a fan of Justine & Gena Showalter you should check out this series 🙂

Kelly reviews Sizzled by Jacey Conrad & Gia Corona

sizzledTITLE: Sizzled
SERIES #: Facile Restaurant #8
CHARACTERS: Xavier Blackwell & Lakshmi Krishnamurthy
AUTHOR: Jacey Conrad & Gia Corona
PUBLICATION DATE: February 3, 2015
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N| iTunes

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Sizzled is the next installment in Jacey Conrad and Gia Corona’s Facile Restaurant series. Each of the ten stories focuses on a different couple.

Facile’s manager, Xavier Blackwell, has reputation for being ruthless, smart and savvy with the ladies. While the first two descriptors are correct, the third portion of his reputation is not exactly accurate. While the posh London accent and prowling persona have garnered him many a lady’s attention, for Xavier, there’s only been one woman, one woman who seeped into his soul and left her mark on his heart. And she chose tonight, one of the most hectic, disastrous nights in Facile’s history, to visit his restaurant.

Food critic Lakshmi Krishnamurthy remembers her all-too-brief time with Xavier fondly. She means her visit to Facile to be a nostalgic stroll down memory lane. But due to miscommunications between nearly every member of the restaurant’s staff, it has become more of a culinary death march. Will Lakshmi take pity on the scrambling manager and invite him to her hotel room for a bit of room service?

REVIEW:
As always the ladies of the Facile Restaurant series sucked me into another sizzling hot read. Super excited to finally get my hands on Xavier… I mean his story. We have seen Xavier in just about every story. And he is always just there fixing stuff. He is like batman. He swoops in and saves everyone. But in Sizzled we get to see a not so smooth put together Xavier. I laughed so hard when Xavier had to wait outside of his office for EJ (hehehehe). Loved it!!
Can’t wait for the next installment.
And I truly hope the ladies will revisit all of these couples. I am sure there are more untapped spaces in the restaurant that they can get creative with.

Kimberly review All For You by Christi Barth

all for youTITLE: All For You
SERIES #: Shore Secrets #2
CHARACTERS: Casey & Zane
AUTHOR: Christi Barth
PUBLICATION DATE: 02/09/15
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Small-town park ranger Casey Hobbes has spent her life under the radar, carefully guarding a secret. “The forest flirt,” as her best friend calls her, keeps things casual with men. That way she’ll never care enough to be tempted to share the truth about her past. But when she spots a half-naked stranger on the lake’s edge, Casey can’t resist his muscles or his charm and she’s all-in for enjoying both, while keeping emotion out of it. What could be the danger of one summer fling?

Professor Zane Buchanan has built his entire career on exposing the dark realities of cults, but one—the Sunshine Seekers—remains infuriatingly impossible to crack. Zane’s shocked to discover its sole anonymous survivor is hiding in his new hometown. It’s nearly impossible to concentrate on work, however, when he’s derailed by his attraction to the beautiful blonde in khaki uniform shorts.

As things between Casey and Zane heat up, she struggles with keeping her past from him. And Zane’s on a quest to expose the truth, no matter the consequences. Will their growing emotions finally unseal Casey’s big secret? Or will she turn her back on love to keep the past safely buried?

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts I had kind of a hard time with this story. I never really came to enjoy Casey and/or Zane. I mean they were fine but not great. Both of them are just a bit dull. The story is ok. But went on a bit too long. There were too many repeats of the same things. It just wasn’t my favorite story.

Now that all being said it was not all bad either. The underlying story is interesting. The fact that Casey was raised in a cult for a bit is kind of different. Zane’s background is good too. He is not the stereotypical professor with patches on his elbows. He is down to Earth and is sweet.

Would I tell someone to run out and buy it? No. But it could be a good book to have ready to read on your e-reader for between books.

Her voice and touch seduced him, and now that he’s awake, he will do anything to find her and make her his. Unfortunately, helping her save her clan may require letting her go

REVIEW:
Another great story from Ms. Grant!! I am sad to see the Rogues of Scotland come to an end. But it was a fun ride. I loved seeing how each of the guys handled their imprisonment and then their release. I will say out of all of the guys I think Daman might have been my favorite. He was the one that seemed to have his head on straight from the beginning. Yet he still was doomed to the same fate as the rest. But in The Seduced we finally learn why the Gypsy’s cursed them.
If you have not picked up this series and are looking for a quick read you really should check them out.

Kelly reviews Want Me by Cynthia Eden

want meTITLE: Want Me
SERIES #: Deadly Obsession
CHARACTERS: Lex Jensen & Sophie Sarantos
AUTHOR: Cynthia Eden
PUBLICATION DATE: January 21, 2015
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
She doesn’t play it safe…

Sophie Sarantos has a weakness for dangerous men. She doesn’t like safe lovers—she likes men with a wild, rough edge. But Sophie may have attracted a lover who is too dangerous, even for her. Someone is stalking Sophie, slipping into her home, watching her day and night. The stranger seems to know all of Sophie’s darkest secrets, secrets that should never be revealed.

Out of options, Sophie turns to ex-solider Lex Jensen for protection. Lex is part owner of VJS Protection, Inc., and Sophie hires him as her bodyguard. She thinks Lex is one of the “good guys” out there, but she couldn’t be more wrong.

He doesn’t play at all…

Lex has his own secrets. Dark, deadly secrets. And as his feelings for Sophie grow, Lex knows that he is going to have to stop pretending to be a gentleman and, instead, he’ll have to show Sophie who he really is. A man trained to kill. A man too used to evil. A man who will take any risk…as long as he can claim Sophie.

Because there is one thing that Lex wants in this world…one person he desires above all others…Sophie. And no one will hurt her, not on his watch.

Author’s Note: WANT ME does not contain a cliff-hanger ending. It is a complete, stand-alone title.

REVIEW:
We had meet both Lex and Sophie in Watch Me when a serial killer left Sophie to die. From that moment on Lex had a bit of an obsession with the smart, sexy and untouchable Sophie. But when Sophie comes to VJS for protection, Lex knows that no one will take this job from him. But the question is can Lex keep personal and business separate.

Another really good story from Ms. Eden. Throughout the whole story I keep wondering who was the one we were looking for. I guessed a few times, was wrong a few time and when I finally figured it out it all made perfect sense. This was a good read and if you liked Watch Me you should pick up a copy of Want Me. But never fear Want Me can be read as a stand alone pretty easily. But I would read them in order. I can’t wait for the next installment and Dev’s story.

CHARACTERS: Mason Callahan & Ava McLane
AUTHOR: Kendra Elliot
PUBLICATION DATE: February 10, 2015
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

Ava and Mason search in the past for clues that predict the future. And when Ava’s mentally ill twin spins out of control, the FBI agent who battles monsters every day wonders if she shares her sister’s self-destructive streak…

In the latest thrilling romantic suspense novel from award-winning author Kendra Elliot, the past and the present violently collide…and the fallout can be deadly.

KELLY’S REVIEW:
Bridged is book 2 in Ms. Elliots Mason Callahan series. After the events of Vanished (bk1)(which you need to read) I was not sure how Ms. Elliot was going to top this story, but she did. Bridged is truly an amazing story.
In Bridged we find Mason & Ava loving life and looking forward to a little down time. But in the Rose City there is no rest for the wicked, which means no rest for the Oregon State Police and the FBI.
There is so much that I want to tell you. But I don’t want to give anything away. But I will tell you that this story just keeps building and building and building with each chapter. Building to the point that you can’t put the book down until you get to the end.
Amazing!!! It truly amazes me how twisted and complicated a suspense romance authors mind works. I can’t wait for the next journey in Mason & Ava’s life, although I do hope that they will get a nice quiet weekend soon. 🙂

NATASHA’S REVIEW:
I am so in love with this series! This story follows Mason and Ava as they try to adjust to life as a couple and chase a whole new brand of serial killer. They are great together and I love getting to see them work together. I do wish that we saw them together more outside of work. I wanted to see how they interacted, why they were so happy together. We got glimpses – but I’d be ok with much more! We mostly saw the supporting work characters of these two in this installment and that’s ok with me. I love Ray! I’m curious about Zander…I wonder what he’ll add to this series moving forward. Such a great read!

ravenTITLE: The Raven
SERIES #: The Florentine #1
CHARACTERS: William York & Raven Wood
AUTHOR: Sylvain Reynard
PUBLICATION DATE: February 3, 2015
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Gabriel Series comes a dark, sensual tale of romance in a city shrouded in mystery…

Raven Wood spends her days at Florence’s Uffizi Gallery restoring fine works of Renaissance art. But an innocent walk home after an evening with friends changes her life forever. When she intervenes in the senseless beating of a homeless man, his attackers turn on her, dragging her into an alley. Raven is only semi-conscious when their assault is interrupted by a cacophony of growls followed by her attacker’s screams. Mercifully, she blacks out, but not before catching a glimpse of a shadowy figure who whispers to her…

Cassita vulneratus.

When Raven awakes, she is inexplicably changed. She returns to the Uffizi, but no one recognizes her and more disturbingly, she discovers that she’s been absent an entire week. With no recollection of the events leading up to her disappearance, Raven also learns that her absence coincides with one of the largest robberies in Uffizi history – the theft of a set of priceless Botticelli illustrations. When the baffled police force identifies her as its prime suspect, Raven is desperate to clear her name. She seeks out one of Florence’s wealthiest and elusive men in an attempt to uncover the truth about her disappearance. Their encounter leads Raven to a dark underworld whose inhabitants kill to keep their secrets

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts Sylvain Reynard’s The Florentine series is a little different than the Gabriel’s Inferno series. Both series are written very well and make you fall in love with the stubborn moody hero and cheer for the sweet, kind and backbone of steel heroine. But in The Florentine series there is a huge paranormal element that was not in the other series. Which leads to a lot of very interesting things that link these two series together. What they are I will not tell you what is the fun in that (yes, I am evil like that).
I do have to say that I was a tad bit worried when I read The Prince (the prequel to this book). I found The Prince was a little stand-offish and not very nice at all. But in The Raven, the Prince won me over. Yes, he is moody as heck. Yes, he thinks things should be one way even if change can be good. But all in all he is a great guy. I just love William with Raven. Even at times when he is being his moody self :). I can’t wait to see what is next for these two.
