General Powell from book 1 has returned and he’s developed a way to create and control a new generation of female GTECHs. He plans to use these women to bring both, the Renegades and the Zodius soldiers, back under his command. The world will be his. Now, Damion, a Renegade, who readers met in book two, will be pitted against one of those soldiers, a woman destined to be both his Lifebond and his enemy. Damion will become her only hope of salvation and their trust in each other the only chance they have to save the world from a madman.
My thoughts:
Lara is a woman on a mission, a mission to kill those who have hurt her and her family.  But when Lara gets the chance she can’t pull the trigger.  Something about this mission doesn’t feel right.   Now Lara has drawn the attention of one of the Renegades.  Not just any Renegade, Damion Browne.
What Lara learns from Damion, will make her questions everything she thinks, knows and feels.  Lara now has to trust the people she has long hated.  But how can she trust them when she can’t trust herself.
Damion never breaks the rules.  NEVER!!!  He is a by-the-book kind of guy, but the minute he sees Lara the rule book gets thrown out the window.  Damion doesn’t know why yet but he is drawn to Lara, and is willing to do anything, sacrifice anything, and most of all break any rules to keep her safe and with him.
I loved Damion & Lara together.  They are both so stubborn and hard headed but perfect for each other.  Both think that they can handle anything on their own, but soon learn they are much better as a team.  I so love this series.  I can’t wait to see where Lisa takes us next.

Book fanatic? Me??
As a writer, I have a natural (almost unnatural!) obsession with books and my home as well as my office is overflowing with them. I am a self-confessed bibliophile and despite having over 250 books waiting to be read, I still buy more. This backlog of books are all hardback and paperbacks, by the way – it doesn’t include the 40 + I have downloaded onto my Kindle.
It is usual for me to be reading three books at any one time – a hardback, a paperback and an ebook. Makes complete sense, right? No? Let me explain. The hardback is for reading in bed, the paperback is for reading in the bath or when I am walking the dog (I kid you not) and the ebook is for when I am waiting to pick up my kids from one club or another, or waiting at the dentist/doctors etc. Simple.
Okay, so as you can see I LOVE books with a passion so it is darn near impossible for me to choose a single favorite title – so I’m going to cheat and name my all-time favorite author instead….
It has to be the fabulous Nora Roberts every time.
Now I know there maybe some moans and groans out there, but I seriously don’t know why so many people seem to have such a gripe with the fabulous Nora. She writes fantastic stories, with fantastic characters and most of all a fantastic romance. For me at least, she delivers each and every time. I am yet to be disappointed by any of her books and I’ve read a lot – and yes, I still have a lot to read too!
As for erotic romance I enjoy far too many authors to list but the romances I love to read, even though I don’t write them, is any featuring a hunky cowboy, yum! If you like a bit of erotic Western naughtiness too, I cannot recommend the Cowboy Kink series from The Wild Rose Press highly enough 😉
Rachel’s latest release is “Paying The Piper” and it’s available now from Lyrical Press. Here’s the blurb:

Nightclub manager, Grace Butler is on a mission to buy the pub where her mother’s ashes are scattered – except the vendor wants to sell to anyone but her. And the vendor happens to be her father…with a secret Grace will do anything to uncover.
Social worker and all-round good guy, Jimmy Betts needs cash to buy a house for three special kids before their care home closes. In a desperate bid for cash, he agrees to a one-time ‘job’ for bad-man Karl Butler. But in a sudden turn of events, Jimmy finds himself employed by Karl’s beautiful, funny and incredibly sexy daughter, Grace.

Their lives are so different except for one unifying thread – they are both trying to escape the binds of their tyrannical fathers. But is the key to their liberty each other?

Interview with Camryn Rhys

Books-n-Kisses is pleased as punch to welcome back Camryn Rhys to the blog.

Q1) Can you please share with us a little about yourself
I’m a sports fan, so this book was a lot of fun for me. I got to research it, at first, by going to Madison Square Garden, so how bad can that be? Plus, if you read the book, there’s… um… lots of research to do.

Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Pretty much. I’ve always done a lot of things, but I’ve been writing from my early years. My very first “career” day, I wanted to be a romance author. Imagine that!

Q3) What is your most interesting writing quirk?
I almost always start writing without knowing what’s going to happen. I like to let my characters direct what happens, but that’s unpredictable, and sometimes unsafe. They get me into lots of trouble. 🙂

Q4) Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?
Every Time I Think of You is a contemporary erotic romance, the story of a girl with a fantasy. She’s had fantasies before, and they haven’t worked out so well. So she’s hoping that this time, her fantasy will survive the test.

Q5) How did you come with the idea for this story?
Honestly, I wrote the first scene and just went from there. It sort of wrote itself after that.

Q6) Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
I’m currently editing my next release, a Steampunk Paranormal erotic romance novel for Ellora’s Cave. It’s the story of a woman who’s on the front lines of Victorian Europe’s war on magic. She falls for a lone alpha werewolf with a messiah complex. Hilarity and much sexxors ensue, and voila! You’ve got an Airship Seduction. 🙂

Q7) Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?
I’ve always wanted to meet Diana Gabaldon. She was at RWA last year, but her booksigning line made the lines at Disney look abandoned. Between her and Julie Garwood (who I’d also like to meet), they’re the reason I got into romance in the first place. I would love to meet them someday.

Q8) What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?
Write. Honestly, too many people want to write and never finish a book. Can’t publish something that’s not done.

Q9) Can you share with us something off your bucket list.
I’ve always wanted to travel to Lisbon. I had a friend once tell me that city reminded him of me, and somewhere I would enjoy, so I’ve always thought I would go there and see if I could find myself there.

Q10) What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
I don’t have anything right now that’s calling my name. I think once I get through these edits, I’ll have some time to get back into what I really want to read.

Q11) Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thanks so much for having me! Love Books’n’Kisses. 🙂 Thanks for having me back.

Jaci Butron’s Play by Play Series

The Perfect Play
Book One in the Play-by-Play Series
Football pro Mick Riley is an all-star, both on the field and in the bedroom. But a sexy, determinedly single mom just might be the one to throw him off his game…
For years Mick has been taking full advantage of the life available to a pro athlete: fame, fortune, and a different girl in every city. But when he meets and beds confident, beautiful event planner Tara Lincoln, he wants much more than the typical one-night stand. Too bad Tara’s not interested in getting to know football’s most notorious playboy any better.
As the single mother of a teenage son, the last thing Tara needs is the jet-set lifestyle of Mick Riley; even though their steamy and passionate one-night stand was unforgettable. Tara’s life is complicated enough without being thrust into the spotlight as Mick’s latest girl du jour. Tara played the game of love once and lost big, and she doesn’t intend to put herself out there again, especially with a heartbreaker like Mick.
But when Mick sets his mind to win, nothing will stop him. And he has the perfect play in mind.
Changing the Game
Book Two in the Play-by-Play Series
Most people play by the rules. Gavin and Liz aren’t most people…
Win at any cost. That’s always been the mantra of sports agent Liz Darnell. When she carries things too far and risks losing her number-one client, baseball pro Gavin Riley, Liz realizes that she’ll have to work extra innings to win him back. It might not be too much of a stretch. She’s had a thing for this player’s moves since she first laid eyes on him, and by the looks of it, he wants her just as bad.
Gavin’s more than ready—especially when Liz is offering herself as part of the bargain. And as much of her as Gavin wants. For added thrills, he decides to throw a little curve ball Liz’s way to see just how far she’s truly willing to go to keep him as a client. But when love unexpectedly enters the playing field, neither Liz nor Gavin are ready for the biggest game-changer of them all.
Taking A Shot
Book Three in the Play-by-Play Series
If you want to score, you have to get in the game…
The last thing Jenna Riley needs is more sports in her life. While her brothers are off being athletic superstars, she’s stuck running the family’s sports bar, whether she likes it or not. Then in walks pro hockey stud Tyler Anderson. As much as Jenna would like to go to the boards with him, she’s vowed to never fall for a jock—even one as hot as Ty.
Ty, intrigued by the beautiful bar owner, becomes a regular. He senses that Jenna wants to do something more with her life. And as he gains her trust, the passion between them grows, as does Ty’s insistence that Jenna should start living for herself. With his encouragement, Jenna starts to believe it, too…
But first, Jenna has to figure out what she wants, what she needs, who she loves, and if she has the passion and pride to take a shot at having it all—including Ty…
Playing to Win
Book Four in the Play-by-Play Series
Coming Soon
September 4, 2012
Someone’s going to have to let down their guard…
Football star Cole Riley is notorious for doing as he pleases—on the field and off. He parties hard and fights harder, but if he doesn’t clean up his act, his career is over—so Cole reluctantly agrees to work with image makeover consultant Savannah Brooks. He’s not used to being told what to do, especially by some (admittedly hot) southern belle. As for Savannah, she’s not convinced she can transform this cocky (and aggressively sexy) force of nature. But she’s determined to give it her best shot.
When the sparks start to fly, Savannah lays down the ground rules: no personal complications. If she can turn off the tingle she feels every time Cole gives her a hot stare with his gorgeous baby blues, he can turn off his desire as well. But for two people determined to have it all, a hands-off policy can only last so long before one of them yields.
PLAYING TO WIN releases September 4th and is now available for Preorder!

Interview & Giveaway with Jaci Burton

Books-n-Kisses is so excited to have the wonderful Jaci Burton on the blog today.  We are talking about her upcoming release Taking a Shot.  If you love hot, sweaty sport stars, you will fall in love with Jaci’s Play-by –Play series.

1.    Can you please share with us a little about yourself
Jaci: I’m an author of over 50 books, living in the wilds of Oklahoma with my husband and our dogs. I’ve been writing romance for ten years now, and love every day I get to roll out of bed in my pajamas, stumble to the coffee pot and start my day in my slippers and with bad hair. It’s a dream come true!
2.    Have you always wanted to be an author?
Jaci: Not always. I wanted to be a teacher, then a nurse, but those were dreams that never quite made it to fruition. I ended up spending many years in corporate health care management while also juggling raising my kids. But I always loved to write, and dabbled here and there with nothing to show for it. It wasn’t until I divorced and married my totally awesome husband, who encouraged me to take my dreams of writing seriously, that it became the full time career I love so much now.
book 1
3.    Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
Jaci: Oh, I have so many favorite authors—Nora Roberts, Jill Shalvis, Maya Banks, Julie James, Shannon Stacey, just to name a few. But I’d have to say I was heavily influenced by the historical writers of the 70’s and 80’s who fostered my love of reading—Kathleen Woodiwiss, Rosemary Rogers, Johanna Lindsay, Elizabeth Lowell, and Jude Deveraux, who taught me what romances were all about. Without them I’d have never fallen in love with romances, and would have never wanted to write them.
4.    How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?
Jaci: When I first started writing, I released books in a multitude of genres, from contemporary to suspense to fantasy and paranormals, but always came back to contemporary romances, because it’s the genre I love to read the most. And while on occasion I will read in other genres, I plan to stick with writing contemporaries, because it’s the genre I’m the happiest writing.
book 2
5.    What are some of your writing rituals?
Jaci: I don’t really have any set rituals. I try to hit a certain word count per day, but sometimes life and other things get in the way and it doesn’t always work out. I generally fly by the seat of my pants, and as long as the book gets done on time, I’m happy.
6.    Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?
Jaci: Taking A Shot is my current release, and is the third book in my Play-by-Play sports series. It’s about hot sports players and the women they love. Taking A Shot is about Ty Anderson, hockey player for the fictional ST Louis Ice, and Jenna Riley, owner of Riley’s sports bar. Jenna wants nothing to do with sports players since her family is all about sports. But Ty’s determined to show her that they belong together, and his job shouldn’t matter.
7.    How did you come with the idea for this story?
book 3
Jaci: I had an idea to do a series about professional sports players, and thought it might be fun to make the books family-centric. So the Riley family was born, with Mick the football player in the first book, The Perfect Play, Gavin the baseball player in the second book, Changing The Game, and though Jenna doesn’t play professional sports, she runs the family sports bar and meets up with Ty the hockey player in Taking A Shot. We extend the Riley family with Cole, a Riley cousin, in Book 4, Playing to Win, which will release in September.
8.    Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
Jaci: Right now I’m working on Book 5 of the Play-by-Play series, Thrown By A Curve, which is a baseball story and features Cole’s sister, Alicia.
9.    What would you be if you were not an author?
Jaci: Uh….I have no idea. I’d probably still be in corporate life, bored and dissatisfied. 😉
10. What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
Jaci: Right now I have an ARC of Julie James upcoming book, About That Night. Lucky me!
11.  Is there anything else you would like to add?
book 4
Jaci: I’m most appreciative of this interview, and I want to thank everyone who has read and loved my Play-by-Play series!
I’d also like to offer up a copy of The Perfect Play, Book 1 in my Play by Play series, or Changing The Game, Book 2 in the Play by Play series. The winner can decide which book they’d like to receiver, and the book can be in either print or Kindle or Nook format, winner’s choice!

Book Feature of Moon over Alcatraz by Patricia Yager Delagrange

Following the death of their baby during a difficult birth, Brandy and Weston Chambers are grief-stricken and withdraw from each other, both seeking solace outside of their marriage; however, they vow to work through their painful disloyalty.  But when the man Brandy slept with moves back to their hometown, three lives are forever changed by his return.
Excerpt:
Three days later we were standing at the edge of a hole in the ground at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hayward, the silence so thick, the insides of my ears buzzed like a distant swarm of angry bees.  Mr. Peralta and another gentleman stood off to the side while Weston and I held hands next to the tiny casket.
Weston had chosen a simple mahogany box with gold handles, a bouquet of white lilies graced the top of the small box.  I knelt down and laid a kiss on the smooth wood then wiped off the tears that had fallen on the wood.  Weston joined me and placed a single red rose in the middle of the lilies.
He helped me up and we stood side-by-side in silence, my guilt over her death like a stone in my empty belly.  I missed everything I’d dreamed would be happening right now, yearned for all that could have been.
Weston nodded at the man standing next to Mr. Peralta and our baby was slowly lowered into the gaping maw.  She reached the bottom, and a bird landed on the rich brown dirt piled next to the grave.  It pecked around, chirping a little song, then flew off – as if saying goodbye.  My heart squeezed inside my chest.
I picked up a small handful of soft dirt.  “Goodbye, Christine,” I whispered, throwing it on top of her casket.
Weston wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me in close to his side.  Why her?  Why my baby?  Was this supposed to make sense?  And, if so, to whom?
We drove home in silence.  No words existed to express my grief.
Fascinated by broken-hearted couples and atypical families, Patricia weaves engaging tales of men and women who create cohesive families where love reigns supreme.  She sprinkles her books with intriguing characters who struggle to find balance in life after tragedy.  Whether an unwed teenager, desperate widow, abandoned father, or a couple who stray from their marital vows, her characters form relationships impacted by their desire to create a family.
Aside from writing, her favorite things to do include riding her Friesian horse, Maximus, dot-to-dot for adults, and watching Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington movies.  She spends a majority of her days writing while her two very large Chocolate Labs lounge on the couch cuddled next to her and her MacBook.
She writes a blog every Wednesday, so if you’re interested, sign up to be on the mailing list and she’ll notify you after she posts her blog on this website.  Or just drop by Wednesday mornings and leave a comment.

Interview & Giveaway with Katie Reus

Books-n-Kisses is super, duper excited to welcome the wonderful Katie Reus to the blog today.  So excited to learn more about you Katie and you new book Alpha Instinct.

Thank you so much Kelly for having me here today!

1. Can you please share with us a little about yourself?

Katie: If you want the really condensed bio: I write romantic suspense and paranormal romance, live in the South, love red wine, the beach, spending time with my family and visiting old cemeteries. I love reading (no surprise!), flip-flops and have a seven month old son who is incredibly adorable and takes up a lot of my time nowadays. If you want something more official, check out my website: http://katiereus.com/about/
2. Have you always wanted to be an author?
Katie: No! This need to write took me by surprise about six years ago and I haven’t looked back since.
3. Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?
Katie: I don’t really have any ‘typical’ writing days anymore. I used to have a very strict schedule but with a seven month old in the house, I write on my laptop anywhere in the house now instead of at my desk. I usually write during naptimes and once my little man has gone to bed. I’ve seriously turned into a vampire. In the past year I’ve become very adaptable so the only thing I really need is a cup of coffee for my morning hour writing sprint. Other than that, I just need my computer 😉
4. Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?
Katie: Most challenging: I loathe writing a synopsis of any book before writing the actual story. As in, I hate it so much I’d rather scrub my house from top to bottom and even iron, something that makes me shudder even thinking about. Rewarding: Reader mail! There’s nothing like receiving a sweet email from someone telling me how much they loved one of my books.

5. Can you please tell us about your latest book?

Katie: Alpha Instinctis the first book in a new paranormal series (Moon Shifter) now available from NAL/Signet Eclipse. This is the official back cover copy:
Fear has a scent. So does desire…
Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it’s almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.
The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.
But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…
6. How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Katie: It sort of evolved from my original intent. What was supposed to have been a simple paranormal novella grew and I realized that a lot of the characters needed their story told. When I finally let my characters take over, everything flowed from there.
7. Can you share with us your current work in progress?
Katie: I’m working on a novella for my editor with Harlequin Nocturne for their Cravings line.
8. Who are some of your favorite authors?
Katie: Linda Howard, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kaylea Cross, Laura Wright, Cynthia Eden, JR Ward, Lisa Marie Rice, Karen Marie Moning and Nalini Singh just to name a few.
9. Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?
Katie: Most of my favorite authors write about alpha males so I think it’s only natural that I write about the type of men I enjoy reading about. As far as actual voice, I think that’s pretty specific for each writer.
10. What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
Katie: I’m dying to read Angel’s Flight by Nalini Singh. I think I’ve actually read at least one of the novellas in the recently released anthology, but there’s a new story in it featuring Galen and I’ve been foaming at the mouth waiting for his story to release.
If you’d like to find me online, check out my website, blog, facebook page, Goodreads or find me on twitter @katiereus
One reader who comments on today’s blog will be randomly selected to win a print copy of Alpha Instinct (US eligible only). Contest will be open until noon Central time on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Please leave your email address in the comments section. Good luck and thanks so much for stopping by!

Interview & Giveaway with Stephanie Queen

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Stephanie Queen to the blog today.
We are talking about her new book Playing the Game.
1.    Can you please share with us a little about yourself
Here are some Tidbits:  My cat’s name really is Kitty, I only wear sunglasses when I’m outside, my chauffeur’s name is NOT James (I don’t know what his name is, but I call him Myren after one of my favorite Harlan Coben characters–for no good reason) and I still have not found a pink velvet divan, or I’d be reclining on it at this very moment.
2.    Have you always wanted to be an author?
Ever since the nuns made me write a story in second grade. I forget what the punishment was if I didn’t come up with something—but those nuns can be very compelling. I’m still coming up with stories xx years later.
NOTE:  The xx denotes a big bad secret that will never be divulged no matter what the punishment is.
3.    Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
I love Dr. Seuss, and about two or three thousand other writers. Gertrude Stein is the only writer who I can say categorically that I do not like. If she influenced my writing it’s because I was still recovering from the headache I got trying to decipher what she was trying to say.
4.    What are some of your writing rituals?
First, I throw some salt over my left shoulder, then I…oh, wait, you didn’t mean THOSE rituals, did you?
What I do is I make sure I have my slippers on, then I walk to my desk, sit in a chair, and start typing on my computer. Something eventually shows up on the screen in the form of a story.
NOTE: “Eventually” could be x years later.
5.    Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?
Playing the Game is about two of my favorite things combined, romance and sports (I bet you thought I was going to say chocolate and nuts). I had a blast doing the research, going behind the scenes of professional basketball, inside a TV studio, and taking a peek into volunteer charity work. It’s about a superstar who has to learn what’s important and the socialite accused of murdering her husband who ends up teaching them both a lesson. There’s more drama than funny in this one.
6.    How did you come with the idea for this story?
(See above: “two of my favorite things”)
7.    Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
The Hot Shots is a romantic comedy mystery with a dash of adventure. It’s book 2 in the Scotland Yard Exchange Program Series. The Hot Shots follows Sophia “the Pixie” from The Throwbacks into her own hot mess of an intrigue–and into romance with a Scotland Yard detective on the run.
8.    What would you be if you were not an author?
I’d be a very odd person hanging around the house in my slippers and talking to myself with no excuse at all.
9.    What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
I can’t wait for Trish McCallan’s next release in her Forged series – she’s one of the brightest new romance writers I know (and I know MANY!).
10. Is there anything else you would like to add?
Another Tidbit:  I have a hard time taking interviews seriously, but I do take writing seriously and love to hear from readers.

Excerpt, Kacey Hammell, © 2012
Knowing she would soon run out of time before his arrival, and getting more aroused by the second, Isabella hurriedly reached for her bath sponge. Soaping it up, she cleansed her body with an eagerness she was growing accustomed to feeling whenever she had plans to see him.
Sponging all suds from her clean body, she pulled the plug in the drain, stepped out of the tub, and grabbed a thick, blue towel from the shelf.
She rubbed vigorously at her body, drying it, and reached for the strawberry body lotion that went with her bubble bath. She poured a generous amount into her palm, rubbing her hands together to coat them in the sweet smell. Then she smoothed it over her arms, her breasts, stomach, and legs. She smiled as the strawberry scent filled the room. She shivered, both from the cold and appreciation for the deep and rich aroma that she loved to apply all over her body.
Humming Destiny’s Child’s ancient hit Soldier to herself, Isabella wondered how many more minutes she’d have to wait before her soldier made an appearance.
She recapped the body lotion and tucked the towel loosely around her once again. Her heart skipped a beat when she heard the sound of the front door closing. She hazarded a glance in the mirror. With the mussed, damp tendrils of hair around her shoulders, the towel haphazardly wrapped around her, she looked like a woman eager for a man’s—her man’s—touch.
The sound of a boot hitting the floor with a thud caused her to smile, and she moved to the doorway of the bathroom.
Hearing another boot drop and the sound of heavy breathing, Isabella peered into the hallway. When he finally came into view, she was already breathless, even though she had been expecting him.
Dressed in his usual black denim, form-fitting jeans, and dark hair damp as if he too had taken a few moments to clean up, he was a sight to behold.
Isabella’s heart thudded rapidly and her legs threatened to give out. She noticed his leather jacket, undone, over a naked torso. Obviously, his zealousness to be with her had him forgetting a few things.
There they were. The abs, the washboard stomach, had her literally teetering on the edge of orgasm already—and he hadn’t even touched her. Finally lifting her gaze to his face, his smoldering silver-gray eyes captured hers. She had to lean against the doorjamb for support.
He always made her speechless. His beauty, his charm oozed from him with no effort at all. How she had gone so long, so many years as friends with him and never really noticed him in such a way before? Some detective she was, not seeing what was directly in front of her.
As he moved toward her, his pace slowed, as if he knew the effect he was having on her and wanted her to crave him more desperately than ever. His face broke into a sinful grin, telling her he knew exactly what he was playing at.
Never one to let anyone, least of all this man, have the upper hand, Isabella let go of the towel she was still holding around her. It slithered downed her body, pooling at her feet. Noting his small stumble mid-stride, she relished the power she had over him.
Naked and confident, she smiled at the man she needed to feel against her. Desperate to have his hands on her, she called to him.
“Brady….”

Interview with Ciara Lake

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Ciara Lake to the blog today…

Q1) Can you please share with us a little about yourself.

I am a mother of two wonderful boys.  They are very talented in music.  My oldest son plays the piano, the trumpet, banjo and guitar.  My younger son plays piano and saxophone.  We all sing.  I play around with the piano and violin.
My daytime job is an attorney in Juvenile and Domestic court.  There is lots unhappiness in my job regarding people’s relationships.  Therefore, I really enjoy writing about lasting love.  About characters who just know, they are meant to be together.  Perhaps my writing is a form of therapy for me.  J  I want it to bring happiness to others too.
Q2)  Have you always wanted to be an author?
Since I was in high school, I wanted to write. I used to write short stories and thought about trying to write for magazines.  But I got busy going to college, then I had children.  I just never seemed to have the time.  One thing I have learned, you have to make time for yourself and for the things you love.
I had a teacher in High School, Karen Harper.  She was my English teacher.  She was starting with her writing and she inspired me.  I did well in her class and she was encouraging to me.  It goes to show how important a good teacher can be.

Q3) Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
My favorite authors are:  Sherylin Kenyon, Christine Feehan, Lora Leigh and Charlaine Harris.  There are other authors I read regularly too, but these four are my favorite.  I would love to meet them.
Q3) How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?

I enjoy reading paranormal, fantasy and sci fi.  I love escaping into new and strange worlds.   These types of books just seem to catch my eye and keep me reading. The layers in these books on top of the characters are exciting.
I enjoy creating unique worlds and with different people who are capable of new and interesting things.
However, I can see myself writing contemporary or historical.  I was a history teacher (at least I went to college to be one) then went to Law School.  So, I do have a love for history and writing about historical times would be enjoyable too.
Q4) What are some of your writing rituals?

I sit down in front of the computer and let my fingers move.  I let myself surrender to the story and it just flows out of me.  I have fun dreaming on the computer.  It comes alive.
I drink a lot of coffee while writing.  Thus, Krevan Vallex became coffee drinker in The Triaxen.  Actually, coffee became very important to the Triaxen people, all because I was enjoying a good cup of Java.  J
Q5) Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

I finished the next book in Xihirah, Tallusian Nights.  I am working on edits now.  I hope to turn in to Siren soon.  In Tallusian Nights, the war goes on between the Realmist and the rest of the universe.  The Xihirian military comes to the planet Tallusia’s rescue.  Princess Zalora Zimbali is rescued by Kael’s son, Val.  Val and Zalora have many heated nights in the wild forest of Tallusia.  In Tallusian Nights, Felix Tomron, the new leader of the Realmist encounters Val Braeden.  They clash.  Felix is out for revenge.  Val must save his family from Felix’s torment.

I’ve already planned out the next book, Fires of Zenite.  This next story will be about Val’s Uncle, Kade Braeden.   Kade is introduced in Tallusian Nights.   He is a bad boy prince who is about to meet his perfect mate and have his adventure and romance in the stars on a very hot planet in the midst of a war reaching its climax.  It always takes the right woman to settle a bad boy down and save him from himself.

Just before I started writing Tallusian Nights, I finished my first book in the Forsaken Series.  I’m writing this series with Author Patricia Bates writing under pen name Elise Whyles.   The series will feature a fantasy world filled with fantasy realms.  The series will have dragons, elementals, vampires, Krevellians, trolls, merpeople, Greek gods, Norse gods, the enchanted forest, and more.  Each book is a sensual experience for our readers.  Both Elise and I are very excited.  Beachwalk Press is our publisher.  The second in this series will come out in Spring Summer of 2012 Curse of the Dragon’s Claim.

Blurb:
The world of the immortals exists parallel to ours.  It’s a world of magic, danger and mystery.  Immortals often travel to our realm. They live among us.
Vampires and Dragons have been at war for ages.  Innocent humans and immortals have died as a result.  Some unfortunate immortals have been forsaken to live ignorant as humans among us.  A beautiful Forsaken, Arianna Mergliano will discover she’s something more than she ever imagined.
Clayne MacDagon, a powerful dragon warrior embittered by his twin’s death is sent on a mission to find the dracvipen.  Seeing Arianna, he knows she is his fated mate.  Embracing this truth, he takes her as his own.  They suffer much at the hands of their enemies – nevertheless, their love helps them overcome all.
I just finished a book I’ve named An Angel for Avery.  It is the first book in the series Avery’s Angels, the sons of Aiden.  It’s a modern day story taking place in Maine.  Avery’s a pastry chef at an historic Inn.  Fresh out of college Avery’s lonely and has some struggles adjusting to her new life.  She’s far from her home and family.  One morning she wanders into Granny’s Cupboard on Bay Street.  There she finds a gorgeous cut glass antic ornament.  An angel with a huge sword sparkles grabbing her attention.  She purchases the ornament, makes a wish, and her life will never be the same.  I have not decided where I will be submitting this book and series.
Additionally, I am starting another series with Elise Whyles with the working title, Akvo the Waters of Life. This series is in early stages, so stay tuned for more information.
Q6) How did you come with the idea for this story?
I do a lot of daydreaming.  I may hear something or experience something and a story is born.  I jot down names and ideas to come back to later.
With Forsaken, Elise and I talked it out in brainstorming sessions.  New characters and ideas are born with each session.  I talk to Elise often about my ideas for other books too.  It is great to have someone to talk with, to bounce ideas off.
Q7) Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
I am currently working on the next in the Forsaken series, its working title is The Waves of Time.
This story is about a strong spirited environmentalist lawyer, Tabitha Lock.  Ms. Lock is defending a company alleged to be polluting the waterways.  A Merman, Jax Aquilla, also an environmental lawyer, for The Poseidon Firm, has an agenda regarding Ms. Lock and an intense dislike for the wasteful, careless, 21st century humans, who pollute our world.  Jax is very intolerant at first, yet Tabitha loosens him up a bit.  The two destined lovers start at odds, literally on opposite sides, but their love conquers their differences.  The intensity turns to passion.
Q8) What would you be if you were not an author?
Just me, as I was before, a mother, a daughter, a friend and an attorney for children and families.  I would be the same.  But being an author has brought a new and wonderful layer to my life.  I appreciate this opportunity to share my work with readers.
Q9) What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
I look forward in reading any new releases from my favorite authors previously mentioned.  Or any new author who I find that writes paranormal, fantasy or sci fi.  However, to be honest, I have been so busy working at my day job and writing my various series, I have not been reading very much.  I need a vacation to just sit back and read.  I’ll go grab a bunch of books, download them to my Ipad and read, when given the chance.  My love to write started with my love to read.  This is really unlike me not to have a list of books in progress.  But, I have been devoting my time to creating my own stories when not in court or doing something with my children at home.

Interview & Giveaway with Dani Harper

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Dani Harper back to the blog!!!

Dani Harper is a newspaper editor turned paranormal author. There isn’t anything she likes better than exploring the supernatural — unless it’s writing sizzling and suspenseful romance. Of course, all of her stories have at least one foot in the netherworld.
Q1)  Can you please share a little about yourself?
Hi, I’m Dani and I absolutely LOVE all things paranormal. I used to have a tiny farm in northern Canada and now I live on an island in Alaska. My husband and I run a commercial salmon boat, and it’s been an adventure for me to learn about the ocean. I’m owned by two pugs, Fiona and Toby, and they’re snoring next to me as I type this. When I’m not writing, I love reading, painting, hiking, crafts, sewing and most of all, gardening.
Q2)  Have you always wanted to be an author?
Definitely! I’ve loved books from the time I could walk. And I knew that I wanted to be the one who made up the stories. When I grew up, I moved into newspaper and magazine writing, but as much as I enjoyed that, it still wasn’t my dream. I wanted to create, not report.
Q3)  What is your most interesting writing quirk?
I don’t know if it’s interesting, but I tend to talk out loud when I write. I also admit to making faces and assuming the expressions of the characters I’m writing about. This tends to make people look at me oddly when I’m writing at a coffee shop or at the airport.
Q4)  Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?
My new release, CHANGELING DAWN, is book 3 in my shapeshifter series, but the story can stand alone. “Never judge a man by his species. Love, danger and archeology combine as human Josh and werewolf Kenzie work to rescue a shapeshifter child.”
Q5)  How did you come up with the idea for this story?

I’m never certain where the ideas come from. Usually it’s a case of characters suddenly popping up in my head. I can “hear” them talking to each other, and I know immediately what they look like and sound like and even what their names are. As far as the plot goes, I’m afraid I have to rely on the characters to reveal it to me – this can be pretty frustrating at times if they’re not forthcoming!
As far as wolfen shapeshifters, I think that may have been inspired by a real life event when I lived on the farm. One bright sunny morning, an entire pack of wolves loped across my yard in front of me. They were beautiful animals but what I remember most is that they seemed happy. It remains one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
Q6)  Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
I’m working on Book Four in my Macleod family Changeling series, and also beginning a new Changeling trilogy with brand new characters.
Q7)  Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?
There are many authors whose work I adore, but I think if I only got to meet one, it would have to be Christine Feehan. Her Carpathian series introduced me to the paranormal romance genre. In fact, it was a short story “Dark Dream” in an anthology titled “After Twilight”. I was SO hooked by the Carpathian hero, Falcon, and the world that Feehan had created!  I would want to meet her just to be able to say “thank you”!
Q8)  What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?
I’m still learning myself, but if I was going to give advice, the first thing I’d say is to read, read, read. Plus, I created a page on my website with some resources that might be helpful to a beginning writer. http://www.daniharper.com/FOR_ASPIRING_AUTHORS.html
Q9)  Can you share with us something off your bucket list?
I’d like to visit the countries that my family came from, especially Wales, Ireland and Scotland.
Q10)  What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
I’m a big fan of Patricia Briggs’ shapeshifters, and I’m waiting for the release day of Fair Game, the next book in her Alpha and Omega series. What I’m really dying for, however, is the third installment in the Dorina Basarab series by Karen Chance!
Q11)  Is there anything else you would like to add?
It’s been said that “romance readers are the nicest people” and I’ve found that to be true. I’m so grateful for their support! The best part of being a writer is that magical co-creative relationship with the reader – their imaginations make the characters live as much as mine does. And I have to thank the many book bloggers and reviewers who have generously shared my work with their fans. I’d never get the word out without them! Thank YOU, Kelly, for inviting me over to Books-n-Kisses today!
