Interview with Ava Riley

Books-n-Kisses is excited to have our pal Ava Riley back on the blog today to chat about her upcoming Paranormal release.

Ava, can you please share with us a little about yourself

First of all…thank you Kelly for having me today.  I appreciate it.  Hmmm, well let’s see…I am a woman who wears many hats proudly.  At present, aside from being an author, I am a full-time student working on a double major in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and History.  I am also wife to an amazing man and we have two beautiful children (a boy and a girl who are 11 and 10).  I am also very involved in my son’s competitive soccer team.  So, I stay very busy and get rest not nearly as much as I need.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I get asked this often and my answer would be that I have, but I never imagined that I would ever be published.  And even after this my fourth book to be published it still is both nerve-wracking and exciting.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

I have two…I always need coffee when I write and I always need to have my hair in a ponytail and socks on (okay that’s actually three).  Don’t know why, but I write better and am more focused when I have these three things.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

My latest book is a paranormal romance novella.  It is called Leesea’s Books and Babbles (Camric Series) and it is my first real attempt at a paranormal story.  It is the story of Braeden and Annalisa.  Braeden is a vampire who has waited centuries to find his soul-mate Annalisa and now that they have found each other, there is one nasty little vampire who is trying to keep them apart – Aisling.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

Honestly, it started as a project for a writing class I had and I decided to try my hand at paranormal because it is one of my favorite genres to read.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

I am working on two follow up books in the Camric Series, but because of my school schedule have not been able to devote as much time to them as I had hoped.  Come Christmas break, however, I will immerse myself in writing.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

Well, my favorite author is Lara Adrian and I’ve actually had the pleasure of meeting her and it was amazing.  Aside from her, I’d say Kresley Cole because I really like her work.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

I believe that the best way for someone to be a good writer, is to be an avid reader.  It’s important to see what is working or not working when it comes to other writers.  Also, find someone that you trust to read your writing and have them give you honest critiques before you submit anything to anyone.  I have a friend that reads all my stories and will tell what is working and what isn’t.  It’s better to hear it from a trusted friend that will be gentle than someone who doesn’t know you.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list?

One thing on my bucket list that will probably not happen until the children are out of the house is I want to travel the US in an RV with my husband.  There are so many places I’d like to visit and America has some amazing beautiful places I’d like to see.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Madame Bovary…I heard one of my classmates rave about it, so I have it on my Kindle waiting for me.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would just like to say thank you again to Kelly and Books-n-Kisses for having me.  I appreciate it.  Also, thanks to all my fans for the support they have shown me over the last few years.  Y’all are amazing!

*Thank you Kelly for having me.

Guest blog & giveaway with Marie Harte

The year was 2009. I was supposed to be learning all about the craft of writing in San Francisco at the Romance Writers of America National convention. Instead, I sat in my hotel room with my two best buds talking story ideas and eating junk food.  I wanted to write something different. I’m a romance addict, and I write erotic romance in a variety of genres. But I wanted to write something even more off the map than I normally do.

Two words came to be my next big idea—AMAZON WESTERN. Fast forward three years and Tip of the Spear arrived.

Perfect. I love strong women. Vulnerable yet kick-ass heroines are more my style. And I absolutely adore the western period. It’s raw, powerful,  and pure. There’s beauty in a world dominated by nature, not electrical and mechanical conveniences. But then, being me, I couldn’t just write a historical western with strong protagonists.

And so, I ended the world, restarted it, added mutations to the world courtesy of the sky rocks that nearly destroyed life, threw in the Nature Laws out West, and made sure sexy cowboys would meet up with sexier Amazons.  A quest to retrieve a stolen Amazon crown pits four women up against four rough men in a time when unnatural things roam the west and women are scarce. Sexy, dangerous, fast-paced. The first book pits Thais (Tay-iss) up against Hinto Dakota, a bounty hunter with secrets of his own.

TIP OF THE SPEAR ~ AN AMAZON WESTERN

Publisher: MHP
ASIN: B009N835VQ
Release Date: October 10, 2012

BLURB:  Welcome to the New West, where the Nature Laws dictate who lives and dies by the way they treat the land, carnivorous horses and blood trees are accepted mutations courtesy of the sky rocks, and the Impact Zone separates the earth-friendly territories of the West from a more sophisticated, steam-powered East. Women are rare commodities, living in extended families with more than one husband, and children are a necessity in a world where sterility is often the norm, not the exception. Life is full of challenge, romance and adventure. Something one courageous, wounded Amazon will find out first-hand.

Thais (Tay-iss) lost her mother, her queen, and most of her tribe at the hands of brutal foreigners, all while she enjoyed a respite from duty. But the young Amazon with vengeance in her heart refuses to lose anything else. She’ll bring back the queen’s crown or die trying. Life in the Territories has its perils: the Nature Laws, carnivorous beasts, and treacherous men who survived the Time of Dying. One man in particular, a warrior in his own right, has an odd effect on her senses. She comes to desire him, to trust him, and she doesn’t like it. Men are good for war and breeding, neither of which Thais has time for, not when she’s so close to finding those responsible for the crown’s theft. In the course of her quest, Thais finds much more than atonement for her troubled past, but a pure and lasting love, if only she has the courage to accept it.

Excerpt:

“I don’t want no trouble. I just need to get back to my family.” The young man tried to go around them, but the foursome boxed him in. “I got a younger sister to feed,” the boy said quickly. “Honest. If I don’t help her, she’ll have to go whoring for food.”

“What?” One of the men stepped forward and punched the boy in the gut. His friends grabbed hold of the youngster’s arms and held him upright. “You saying your sister’s too good to whore for us?”

“No, no,” the boy rasped. “But Momma never wanted her to—”

“Dammit, Hank. Let the boy go. I wanna see his pretty little sister,” the farmer said with a sneer.

And again, Hinto thought of that word “abuse.” There was no doubt in his mind every one of these good men would rape the boy’s sister until they’d had their fill. Sex had never been more necessary than it was lately. As if humanity sought a hold on its own existence, men wanted nothing more than to shove a pecker in a warm hole and strive to create in their own image. Even he had thoughts of making a child someday. A fantasy, but one that haunted him despite his troubles.

With a sigh, he moved forward to help the kid when a familiar form stepped in instead, gripping a troublesome, ivory-hilted knife.

“Let him go. If it’s not a fair fight, you shouldn’t trouble yourselves.”

The stranger’s voice was husky, low, and…feminine? Hinto stopped a few feet away just as the kid ripped his arms free and dashed to freedom.

“Well, now, friend, you just ruined a fine day’s entertainment,” Hank said.

Hinto heard the slur of alcohol in his words.

“I’m not your friend. But if you want a fight, I’ll happily give it to you.”

She spoke with an odd accent. To his surprise, up close, Hinto couldn’t see her as a male at all. That the others did attested to her height, her leanness, and the clothing that hid all but her eyes from view.

“You’re everywhere you shouldn’t be today, aren’t you?” he drawled.

She didn’t give him an answer, not that he thought she would. Instead, she nailed Hank in the balls and slammed her fist into one wrangler’s neck. He fell to the ground next to Hank, gasping for breath.

His friends roared their displeasure. One of them managed a punch that grazed off her arm as she turned and crouched low with a leg sweep that took his friend off his feet.

Hinto grabbed her other attacker and knocked him out cold. He turned to help her with the one on the ground and saw her calmly tying the man’s hands together with his own belt. Hinto waited until she finished. “Not bad. Your hat’s falling, though, and your bandana’s too low to hide that smooth chin of yours. How do you keep the hat on, anyway?”

She ignored him and stood. When she tried to walk away, he cut her off and intercepted the fist meant for his throat. Her eyes widened.

“I like your moves, but I’ve seen them before.” She met his stare, her green gaze bright beneath the brim of her hat. “Damn, honey, you’re pretty,” he whispered, conscious of the men around them and the fact that she dressed to disguise her sex.

Pretty didn’t come close to describing her, but it was all he could manage. Green eyes dominated a face full of character and strength. High cheekbones, a slim nose and stubborn jaw hinted at control issues. Her full lips remained flat, though a rosy flush told him she wasn’t immune to his study. As he looked at the rest of her, his body responded. How could it not? Despite the vest hiding her chest, this close, he could see the faint swell of her breasts against the denim underneath. She had a slender build, but no one fragile could take down the Appersons or these louts. She stood only a few inches shorter than his own formidable height. Were he to lean down, their lips would meet at the perfect angle…

She pushed away from him so suddenly she freed herself from his hold. She stepped back and continued to stand in silence, watching him without expression. After a few moments, she frowned, and her lips parted. He envisioned her on her knees, her mouth open to receive him, and he had trouble stifling a groan of pure need.

“What? Don’t tell me you’re too scared to talk?” he asked in a thick voice, captivated by the sweet femininity he could almost taste, wrapped in such a tough package. He’d seen a few women who could handle themselves, but none of them had been this fine. Or smelled so damned good. When the breeze blew, he caught a faint flowery smell, one he couldn’t identify, but one that seemed to encapsulate the woman before him. Pleasing, not overpowering, and addictive.

“I don’t suppose you’d like to thank me for helping you by meeting me at Kitty’s?” The cathouse rented rooms as well as provided services for paying clientele.

“Kitty’s?”

Definitely new to town. “Kitty House is a whorehouse, a fine one, with a red awning over the front porch.” Unlike Delware’s, Kitty didn’t advertise by forcing her women to hang out the windows and flaunt themselves half-dressed.

She blushed a bright red and focused on his mouth. “I have need of Kitty House.” She licked her lips, and he wanted to shout out thanks to his maker.

“You do?” He’d expected a refusal from this one. Not much shocked him, but this woman continued to surprise him. “Well, hell, follow me.”

He walked with a spring in his step, contemplating all the ways he planned to slake this sudden lust. The fatigue weighing him down seemed to have all but vanished. Conscious of her behind him, he wondered about her name, where she was from, what brought her here.

And then she walked around him to enter Kitty’s and requested a private audience with the madam.

“What the hell?” He walked in after her and saw DeeDee lounging in the blue room. Shit. He didn’t want to upset her, but he couldn’t possibly ignore the opportunity to slide between the thighs of this intriguing woman. He couldn’t explain his urgent need to possess her, but until he rid himself of it, he’d get no peace. He tried to follow her into the madam’s private quarters.

She stopped right in front of him and turned around with an irritated expression on her face. “Why do you follow me?”

“Honey, you said you needed Kitty’s. And I sure as hell need you.” He glanced down at himself, pleased when she followed his gaze and stared, her eyes growing wider by the moment.

“I—I do not need you. I need Kitty.”

Shocked anew, he watched her enter at Kitty’s invitation. Kitty shook her head and grinned. She winked, throwing brown ringlets in waves around her painted face before she closed and locked the door behind them.

CONFESSIONS OF AN AUTHOR

Take three wacky aunts, two talking animals, one nervous bride, and an upcoming hit, and you’ve got the follow-up to JB Lynn’s wickedly funny Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman

Knocking off a drug kingpin was the last thing on Maggie Lee’s to-do list, but when a tragic accident leaves her beloved niece orphaned and in the hospital, Maggie will go to desperate lengths to land the money needed for her care.

But the drug kingpin is the least of her worries. Maggie’s aunts are driving her crazy, her best friend’s turned into a bridezilla…and a knock on the head has given Maggie Dr. Dolittle abilities—she can talk to animals. Unfortunately, they talk back.

It’s just another day in the life of this neurotic hitwoman…

That’s the premise of FURTHER CONFESSIONS OF A SLIGHTLY NEUROTIC HITWOMAN. Here are some confessions from its author, JB Lynn:

1) Yes, I ALWAYS wanted to be a writer. ALWAYS.

2) No, I don’t always write about what I know. I’ve never killed anyone. I don’t believe my pets talk to me. (I believe they sometimes try, but I don’t understand them.) I don’t have three aunts.

3) I don’t write only when I’m inspired. If I waited until I was inspired, I’d never finish anything. Inspiration comes in wonderful little bursts, but the real writing of a book comes in the daily work…and it IS work.

4) I’d like to befriend some of my characters, tell some of them off, and I’ve even been known to develop a crush on one or two.

5) I interact with my characters all the time: when I’m driving, when I’m doing the dishes, when a real life person is chattering away at me and I’m staring off into space.

6) Hearing from readers is a rush. I don’t write amazing literature. I’m not trying to make people wrestle with deep thoughts. I’m just trying to tell a story, transport them to another world/life and keep them entertained for a few hours. When readers write to tell me that I’ve done that, the sense of satisfaction is immense.

7) I still write by hand, usually with purple ink.

8) I’m more comfortable sharing my work with complete strangers rather than people I know.

9) I know a little bit about a lot of stuff, but there’s no subject I’m an “expert” on.

10) I tend to forget what I’ve written. If I were to pick up a book I wrote a year ago, there’d be entire scenes I won’t recall. I assume this is because I’m always moving on to the next thing.

Excerpt: FURTHER CONFESSIONS OF A SLIGHTLY NEUROTIC HITWOMAN

“I see a disco ball in your future.” Armani Vasquez, the closest thing I had to a friend at Insuring the Future, delivered this pronouncement right after she sprinkled a handful of candy corn into her Caesar salad.

Disgusted by her food combination, I pushed my own peanut butter and jelly sandwich away. “Really? A disco ball?”

If you’d told me a month ago that I’d be leaning over a table in the lunchroom, paying close attention to the bizarre premonitions of my half-crippled, wannabe-psychic coworker, I would have said you were crazy.

But I’d had one hell of a month.

First there had been the car accident. My sister Theresa and her husband, Dirk, were killed; my three-year-old niece, Katie, wound up in a coma; and I ended up with the ability to talk to animals. Trust me, I know exactly how crazy that sounds, but it’s true … I think.

On top of everything else, I inadvertently found myself hurtling down a career path I never could have imagined.

I’m now a hitwoman for hire. Yes, I kill people for money … but just so you know, I don’t go around killing just anyone. I’ve got standards. The two men I killed were bad men, very bad men.

First Kisses

By Katie Porter

I absolutely love the title of this blog. What more do you need in life but books and kisses? Chocolate, maybe. I can’t even say coffee anymore because I’ve quit caffeine. Books, kisses and chocolate are all I have left. (Imagine that said with overly dramatic sigh. I do a good swoon if I’m in the right mood.)

But there’s really something special about first kisses. No matter where the relationship is going to end up, it all starts with that first spark. The meeting of lips seems like an easy thing…but it’s totally not. It’s intimate. Connected. It’s also got so much potential, doesn’t it? A great first kiss can’t make a relationship all on its own—but an awful one can sure put the kibosh on one that was wavering.

One of my favorite first kisses is at the end of North and South. “You don’t need Henry to explain.” Oh, Richard Armitage. How you slay me. I really couldn’t care less that they’re supposedly breaking all the rules of propriety by kissing in a train station in the Victorian age. It’s a lovely, sweet, all their hearts on the line kind of kiss. One of the best sorts there are.

Leap Year is kind of a kitchen sink sort of romantic comedy. The scene where Matthew Goode rescues Amy Adams from hooligans who’ve stolen her suitcase is utterly predictable. The aren’t-they-cute scene where they cook is kind of out of nowhere. But they’ve got chemistry—and it’s visible in their forced-first-kiss in spades. The way Goode’s character wraps his hands around Amy Adam’s jaw…Seriously. It’s swoon time.

I’ve also had a particular fondness for the first kiss from Dreaming of You, by Lisa Kleypas. Who doesn’t, right? I’m so boring. But Derek doesn’t know who Sara is! Oh noes! The mysterious mask and fancy dress she puts on for the masquerade have completely fooled him. Except half way through some exciting makeouts with a wanton masked lady, he realizes exactly who it is in his arms—and things really take off.

Leah and Michael from Hold ’Em  have technically already had their first kiss because they dated years before the book opens. But it’s not the same thing, because that time around they were missing a few pieces of the puzzle. The things that make them really click as a couple. It’s also the thing Leah never realized was missing from her life: Michael’s submission.

She wrenched his hair. “Kiss me.” Another order. They spilled out of her mouth more easily each time.

“All you had to do was tell me,” he growled.

He stretched up and she leaned down at the same time. Hot. Fast. Immediate. A coming together of more than lips, more than his tongue in her mouth. Their teeth clicked together. Hard.

She moaned into him. His hands spread across her lower back. The blend of cold metal and warm leather scraped her skin. She bit his lower lip, which gave slightly under her teeth.

Leah pulled back, gripping his silky hair when his mouth tried to follow her.

God, it was like she’d been waiting six years for this force. This energy. Every move he’d ever made was recast as a silent promise of that moment…

Leah reached out and found the matching cuff in the drawer. It locked around his other wrist with another quiet click she could barely hear over the whooshing in her ears. Lacing her fingers through his, she pulled his hands into the small space between their bodies to look at the matching cuffs. Strong, rough wrists. Taut tendons. A light dusting of golden hair. All of it bound, as he’d allowed her to do.

“Fuck, that’s hot,” she breathed.

“You’re telling me.”

So luckily, even though it’s not really, truly their first kiss, I like to think it’s the first kiss that counts for Leah and Michael. Because it’s the first kiss that begins the rest of their lives.

Kelly’s ARC review of Blind Destiny by Shiloh Walker

TITLE: Blind Destiny
Grimm’s Circle #7
AUTHOR: Shiloh Walker
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/16/12
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

Heigh ho, heigh ho, it’s back to hell she goes…

Myrsina knows the stories. As one of the oldest of the Grimm, she had a hand in writing most of them, but only she knows the dark origin of the Seven Bloody Sisters. It springs from the place of her birth—and her death. A place of pain and misery to which she plans to never return. Unless forced.

When Luc appears on her doorstep, her heart twists with suppressed longing for the man who can never be hers. The only man who can make her do the impossible—go home.

Luc may be blind, but through their unique, bittersweet connection, even he can see that the task laid before them is ripping Sina’s soul apart. This time it isn’t as simple as fighting a demon that has escaped from the netherplains.

Sina must go back in time—to that cursed ground—and right a wrong that she unknowingly brought about. To write a new ending to a story that may give them both a chance at happily ever after. Assuming they survive.

REVIEW:
While Blind Destiny was not my favorite of all the Grimm Circle stories I still loved being back in the Grimm world.

Luc has lived in the past for way too long.  Now that the love of his life has moved on Luc has to rethink his purpose as a Grimm.  What does he have to offer?  Where does he belong?  And of course that is when Will shows up and send him on his newest mission.  But first he has to go get his new partner.  Sina

Sina has lived with the fact that she has been in love with Luc since the first moment she met him.  But she will never pay second to his wife (will ex-wife) so she has resolved to love him from afar.  But fate seems to have a way to change the things that we want even as we fight them.

Luc & Sina are really a good part.  Both are stubborn, determined and both complete pains in the butt.

Unlike Shiloh’s normal Grimm Circle books we don’t have to wait to the end to figure out who this fairy tale it about.  Which was kind of fun, but I do miss the who is this the whole time I am reading.

If you are a fan of the Grimm Circle books I believe you will enjoy Luc & Sina’s story.  And I am very much looking forward to the next installment in the Grimm’s world.  And I am really hoping one of these days we will get to see Will brought down a notch or two and find his lady love.

Interview & Giveaway with Shiloh Walker

Books-n-Kisses is SUPER excited to have Shiloh Walker on the blog today to chat about her upcoming release of Blind Destiny book 7 in her Grimm Circle series.

Shiloh, can you please share with us a little about yourself?

Well… um.  I write books… LOL.  I read them, I write them, I love them.  J  I’m a mom, I’m a wife…married to my high school sweetheart and we’ve got three amazing kids who drive us both nuts.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I always wanted to write, yes.  The author part, I didn’t get until high school, or so, but I’ve always had stories in my head.

Can you please tell us about your latest book Blind Destiny?

It’s about Luc and Myrsina…we met both of them a few books earlier.  Sina’s got some devils to face and she’s taking Luc with her.  She’s got a lot of history and a lot of guilt.  And…um.  Lust.  She’s been crazy about Luc for years, but up until recently, he was caught up in his own history and never saw her.  Things changed, but it takes a while for either of them to realize it.

I know all your Grimm Circle stories focus on Fairy Tales. Normally you keep us guessing until the end.  But in Blind Destiny we know that Sina is Snow White.  Tell us what makes her Snow White Tale so much different from the other spins on Snow White Tale?

Sina’s story is a twist off one of the ‘Snow White’ like tales…there are a lot of them.  This one is called The Myrtle.  It’s…well, not the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves of Disney you think about when it comes to Snow White.  You can read a shortened version here on Wiki.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Myrtle

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress? Maybe a hint on who is next in line in the Grimm Circle Series

Noooo… cuz I’m not sure yet.  I’m still playing with that idea.  I am working on the next Colbana book…my UF series written as J.C. Daniels.  Book 2 is done and I’m working on book 3.  And a new RS series.  But it’s early days yet.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

Go to Australia with my family.

Blind Destiny

Grimm’s Circle #7

Amazon | B&N

Heigh ho, heigh ho, it’s back to hell she goes…Myrsina knows the stories.

Interview with Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy

Lee Ann, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Please if at all possible return at least a week before your interview date.  Thank you.

I’m a rebel at heart, a dreamer and a storyteller.  I grew up in the historic old river town of St. Joseph, Missouri in the shadow of Jesse James and the echo of the Pony Express.  I spent a lot of time with my grandparents so I ended up being raised in the 1960’s and 1970’s with my head in the 1930’s and 1940’s.  I’m married with three kids, one dog, and I live in what I like to say passes for the suburbs in a small town in the Missouri Ozarks.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Absolutely. One of my earliest memories is of dictating a story to my mother I wanted her to write down for me.  I grew up writing and telling stories.  I tried my hand at a novel in the fifth grade, still have the manuscript.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

I like to write with music – and the music often suits what I’m writing.  If it’s contemporary, it may end up being what my characters like, if it’s set in the past, I’m listening to Big Band music (which I love) or jazz.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

Dust Bowl Dreams is set in the 1930’s, during the Dust Bowl period and the Great Depression.  It begins when a young man desperate to save the family farm for his widowed mom and younger siblings decides he’ll have to rob banks to get the money.  His gal, a schoolteacher, is against the idea and so is his kid brother but Henry decides to do it anyway.  Things get complicated in a hurry especially after the local chief of police begins courting Mama.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I grew on Depression era stories from my grandparents and watched how frugal they were because of those years.  I also am fascinated with Charley Floyd – better known as Pretty Boy Floyd, a name he hated – an Oklahoma outlaw.  I’m fond of Oklahoma, living basically next door and one of my great-grandmothers’ family pioneered there when it was still Indian Territory.  So all the elements combined together to create the novel.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

I wish I could have met Frank McCourt, author of “Angela’s Ashes” and “’Tis” before he passed away – he wrote with such honesty, such raw power and I loved his work.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Grow a thick skin, understand the editor is there to help you, and never give-up. And always be willing to improve and keep learning.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

I want to be in Hollywood, at the Hollywood Forever cemetery some time for the annual Rudolph Valentino memorial held each August since his death and burial there in 1926.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Well, I’m eager to get my hands on the next Outlander book from Diana Gabaldon but I think it’s still about a year away.  And I’m about to start “The Tarot Diaries” by Elicia Seawell.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you so much for interviewing me!

NUMBER OF STARS: DNF

REVIEW:

Had to set this one aside. I didn’t realize that this was the second book in the series.
I need to read book one first.  While I got a good idea of what happened in book one I didn’t connect with the characters in book 2.  That and I am not a huge fan of love triangles.  I don’t like when the heroine is so in love with the hero but sleeps with the enemy.
I have these on my list to read now and will be starting with book 1.

I am sure if you have read book 1 you will love Entice.

Interview & Giveaway with Kellie Kamryn

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Kellie Kamryn to the blog today to chat a little about her newest book

Kellie, can you please share with us a little about yourself: Mom to four by day, erotic/contemporary author by night. Well, I write during the day too. I need to sleep at night.

Have you always wanted to be an author? I think to some degree yes, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I became serious about pursuing it as a career.

Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing? Eloisa James, John Sheridan, Dawné Dominique, Daisy Dunn, Jennifer Labelle, Julie James…my list could go on, but I’d run out of room and we don’t have all day!

How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre? I always wrote slightly spicy contemporary, but after reading some really good erotic literature by authors such as Jennifer Jakes and Jo Davis, among others, I tried my hand at it. Turns out I really enjoy writing it, and I’m pretty good at it.

What are some of your writing rituals? I try to write at least 1000 words a day if I’m working on a new piece. When the words are flowing, I’ll write as much and as fast as I can in a day. I break up my day into sessions – 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon with breaks in between to eat, exercise and promote.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)? The Love and Balance series are about gymnastics coaches finding love. I used to be a competitive gymnast and coach, so I combined passions to create the series.

How did you come with the idea for this story? My plot ideas came to me in dreams as so many of my stories do.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress? Right now, I’m working on an erotic romantic suspense. That’s all I’ll say!

What would you be if you were not an author? Probably still a gymnastics coach.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for? The third book in the Eden series by Dawné Dominique, some erotic shorts by John Sheridan, and a romance by Lori Leger.

An award-winning choreographer must face the only man she’s ever loved then lost when they are teamed up to work together at a gymnastics camp for Olympic hopefuls.

Claire LeMay is at the top of her game – she’s head of a prominent gymnastics facility with her gymnasts winning awards for her outstanding choreography. Now her biggest challenge is to coach alongside the man she’s avoided for three years after he demanded she live in his shadow instead of forging her own path.

After sinking every penny of his inheritance into his state-of-the-art gymnastics facility, Justin Black has achieved his dream. But even with hundreds of members and well-trained coaches, when Claire’s presence invades his space, he reluctantly admits she’s the one thing missing in his life. As their old passion tumbles out faster than a gymnast sprinting down the vault runway, Justin knows he can’t let her walk out of his life this time.

Are they destined to repeat the same old routine or will they be able to choreograph a new one?

Excerpt:

“We’re adults. We can share a bed to sleep. No big deal.”

She glanced away, hoping he couldn’t see her cheeks blush. “Exactly.”

He tugged on the other end of her blanket to get her attention. When her eyes met his, he asked, “Unless you’re chicken?”

Her eyes narrowed to slits. “That only works once.”

He stared her down. “I dare you to share a bed with me for the night.”

She sat heavily on the edge of the bed and slipped off her sandals. “That is a stupid dare.”

“No stupider than it was for me to fall for you and your little anxiety attack over performing the full-in this morning.”

She crossed her arms in front of her chest and blinked at him. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Her lips twitched as she fought a smile.

“Don’t play innocent with me.” Justin grabbed his pillow and smacked her in the face with it.

She squawked in surprise.

“You knew I’d take the bait,” he said. “I never could resist helping you.”

She took up her own pillow, kneeled on the bed, and hit him back. “Then you shouldn’t have been spying on me.”

He smashed his pillow into her ribs, nearly knocking her over.

She righted herself and took a swing at him, hitting him square on the side of his head, causing him to give it a vigorous shake.

The next thing she knew they were in the midst of an all-out pillow war. On their knees on the bed, they took turns whacking each other over and over. It felt good to take her frustration out on him.

Finally, he wrenched the pillow from her hands, took hold of her wrists, and yanked her up against his chest. Her nipples hardened on contact, and she inched back, hoping he wouldn’t notice.

His eyes flicked downward and then up. A slight move, but she saw it. She bumped her pelvis lightly into his and felt his bulging erection. Good. She wasn’t the only one affected by their physical proximity.

She wrenched free of his grasp. “That’s not fair, using your size against me.”

He shrugged. “All’s fair in l– war.”

Interesting slip up, buddy. She thought back to the days when they had wrestled with one another and he had used his strength to win. If memory served, she’d come up with some pretty creative ways of gaining the upper hand. He was in for a big surprise if he thought she’d give up so easily tonight. Even after all this time, she still had a few tricks up her sleeve.

She hopped to her feet and kicked one leg out, her shin connecting with the side of his

ribcage. Caught off guard, he toppled sideways, ending up on his back with her on top, her knees on either side of his torso, her hands pinning his arms to the bed.

Surprise registered on his face, but it wouldn’t last long, and she knew it. She sprang off the mattress, flipped over his head, and landed on her feet on the floor. Quickly, she turned, and twisted his arms together in her grasp.

“Shit,” he muttered. “I’d forgotten how quick you are.”

Fresh out of ideas, she let go of him, having no desire to put herself in a more vulnerable position. But, she failed to step away fast enough. He reached above his head, grabbed her at the hips, and sat up while flipping her forward.

A squeal escaped her lips, and the next second, she was suspended upside down in the air with her face an inch from his crotch. She wet her lips at the sight of the bulge there.

The Perfect Score

Secret Cravings / Amazon / Barnes and Noble

The new head coach has barely gotten her beams in alignment when she’s threatened with a lawsuit by a father for refusing to train his brat of a daughter.

Shelley Longstaff finally has her chance to be in charge only to rue the day when she is asked to train the dreaded Anna Fortier, a gymnast who has no sense of sportsmanship and makes everyone in her vicinity miserable. When Shelley refuses, she’s threatened with a lawsuit by her father. To make things worse, Shelley has an inexplicable attraction to the arrogant rich lawyer!

Since his wife’s death five years ago, Jacques (Jack) Fortier does whatever it takes to protect what is his. Shelley’s club is his last resort to keep his daughter in the sport, but threatening to sue her isn’t exactly his smartest move. When she grudgingly agrees to give Anna a chance, he finds himself attracted to the spritely gymnastics coach – the first woman he’s had any feelings for since his wife passed away.

As Shelley and Jack leap over the line in their parent-coach relationship, Shelley worries over falling in love with a man who admittedly still loves his late wife. But when a crisis of teenage proportions threatens their relationship, will they risk everything for the chance to achieve The Perfect Score?

Excerpt:

He didn’t say anything, but placed a hand on top of the one she had on his thigh. That’s when she noticed the intimacy of their current position. Flustered, she stood and gestured with her hands. “I wanted to go to the Olympics when I was little, but as I got older, I realized I wouldn’t make it. I changed my vision. I wanted to be able to compete, and later I wanted to become a coach. At university, I studied human movement, and I chose to be a part of the sport in a different way.”

“It’s something to think about.”

The faraway tone of his voice told her he didn’t like admitting defeat. Their eyes met again, and the intensity of his gaze had Shelley frozen to the spot. He rose, towering over her, and picked up one of her hands. Lifting it up to eye level, he flattened his palm against hers. Her hand was half the size.

Her heart pounded when he folded his fingers over hers, and the sound of blood rushing in her ears was all she heard. A small smile blossomed as she remembered what she’d thought the first time she’d seen the size of his hands.

“I like it when you smile,” he said, his voice deep. “What are you thinking?”

“The first time I saw your hand I thought it would cover my whole chest. Such an inappropriate thought when first meeting a parent of a potential club member.” She snapped out of her stupor and blushed deeply. “Oh, dear Lord, I can’t believe I said that.”

He shifted his gaze to her breasts. “Shall we test your theory?”

Her nipples hardened in response, and her eyes widened. “It’s not appropriate for you to be staring at my breasts.”

“You shouldn’t have mentioned them.”

“Are we sixteen?”

“Far from it.” He glanced at her lips. “I suppose it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to kiss you.”

“Precisely.” Her voice was far too breathy for her liking. She tried taking her hand out of his, but he tightened his grip.

“I’m going to do it anyway.” He lowered his face toward hers.

She turned her head, trying to remain in control of this situation. Her brain told her this wasn’t a good idea. Her body said, What the hell? “Jack.” Her firm tone should have brooked no argument. Too bad it came out with a quiver.

His eyes closed. “Say it again.”

Her voice trembled when she spoke. “Say what?”

“My name. I hate it when you call me Mr. Fortier.”

“Mr. Fortier,” she began, but Jack caught her chin gently in his hand. Her eyes narrowed, but she didn’t try to escape. “Do you always expect to get what you want?”

“Not a lot of people say no to me.” His lips were a hair’s breadth away from hers. “Please say my name.”

With their lips almost touching, she whispered, “Jack.”

She had been about to say they should keep their relationship professional, and intimate contact was out of the question. But when he sealed her lips with a kiss, further protest died in her throat. He added a little pressure, and warmth spread throughout her entire body.

Her body responded like a woman dying of thirst needs water. She thought his kisses would’ve been aggressive like him, but this was unlike any kiss she had ever experienced. It spoke of moonlit walks and breakfasts in bed, promised tender good nights, and passionate good mornings, whispered words meant only for a lover’s ear, and dreams shared only with another.

Shelley had always viewed a kiss as a prelude to sex, but never to her future.

She drew back and pressed a shaking hand to her lips. Future? She had no future with this man beyond seeing him from time to time at the gym when he brought his daughter for practice.

Completely unnerved, she could only muster two words. “Oh. Wow.”
