When Gabe Hamilton saw Mia Crestwell walk into the ballroom for his hotel’s grand opening, he knew he was going to hell for what he had planned. After all, Mia is his best friend’s little sister. Except she’s not so little anymore. And Gabe has waited a long time to act on his desires.

Gabe has starred in Mia’s fantasies more than once, ever since she was a teenager with a huge crush on her brother’s best friend. So what if Gabe’s fourteen years older? Mia knows he’s way out of her league, but her attraction has only grown stronger with time. She’s an adult now, and there’s no reason not to act on her most secret desires.

As Gabe pulls her into his provocative world, she realizes there’s a lot she doesn’t know about him or how exacting his demands can be. ROCKED

Book 1 in the NA rock star series, Lost in Oblivion

Rocked_CovLg
Coming in September

Onstage he’s Demon, the unsurpassable bassist.

Offstage he’s the Peacemaker, the mastermind who keeps his volatile band from imploding.

Opening for their idols on their first ever tour, Oblivion is living the dream. That dream becomes a nightmare when Oblivion draws more attention than the headliner and egos clash. Frustrated at being shoved out of his mediator role by their new manager, Deacon McCoy loses himself in brutal workouts only coming up for air long enough to refuel—and that means hunting down the catering truck at odd hours.

Especially the deliciously cute chef who excites his taste buds as much as his body.

The child of roadie parents, Harper Pruitt has heard every pickup line twice. To her, musicians are one step above the scraps on her cutting board. All she wants is to get enough experience to run her own catering company, but Deacon and his bottomless and surprisingly gourmet stomach is too tempting to resist. Before long, she finds herself wanting to experiment with him outside the kitchen.

When Harper sees that Deacon’s sense of responsibility is doing him serious damage, she realizes he’s far from the typical rock star. But as the band’s fame grows, she wonders if she can love a man who doesn’t know how to let anyone in—even her.

You met Deacon McCoy in SEDUCED, now you can watch just how far a big man can fall.

USA Today bestselling author Cari Quinn wrote her first story—a bible parable—in 2nd grade, much to the delight of the nuns at her Catholic school. Once she saw the warm reception that first tale garnered, she was hooked. Now she gets to pen sexy romances for a living and routinely counts her lucky stars. When she’s not scribbling furiously, she can usually be found watching men’s college basketball, playing her music way too loud or causing trouble. Sometimes simultaneously.

I’m from the great state of New York–upstate NY, thank you very much. My family consists of a brother who takes care of keeping the snarky side of me alive and a dog that is more spoiled child than mutt. My writer-friends are the glue that keeps my crazy ideas more in the sane category, and my non-writerly friends are the reason I’m not a complete hermit. I can’t go a day without laughing and I truly do fall in love with each and every one of my leading men as I write their book. Music is life and every story has its own soundtrack.

Video Interview with Sylvia Day

I had the amazing chance to sit down with Sylvia Day and talk to her about her newest release “Afterburn”

Take a look to see what  Sylvia’s inspiration behind “Afterburn” was.

To make this day even better for you I will be giving on lucky follower an e-copy of “Afterburn”

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sylvia Day, America’s premier author of provocative fiction, delivers the debut novel from Cosmo Red-Hot Reads from Harlequin.
The realization that Jax still affected me so strongly was a jagged pill to swallow. He’d only been part of my life for five short weeks two years ago. But now he was back. Walking into a deal I’d worked hard to close. And God, he was magnificent. His eyes were a brown so dark they were nearly black. Thickly lashed, they were relentless in their intensity. Had I really thought they were soft and warm? There was nothing soft about Jackson Rutledge. He was a hard and jaded man, cut from a ruthless cloth.

In that moment I understood how badly I wanted to unravel the mystery of Jax. Bad enough that I didn’t mind how much it was going to cost me…

And watch for the release of “Aftershock” on Nov 12, 2013

Interview with Melissa Stevens

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome 1st time guest Melissa Stevens to the blog.

melissa profile picMelissa, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Hmm, I assume you don’t want the standard bio? Let’s see…

I was born and raised in a tiny town in southeastern Arizona. I married young and I now have 3 not so small children (they’re all in school now.) I spend most of the day while they’re at school, and a lot of the evenings too working on my writing.

I’m a part of a local writing group, and I do a lot of things for them. My pet ‘cause’ is American Soldiers

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Not really, I’ve always been creative but I never settled on any one thing I wanted to do. When I was about 15 my best friend’s dream was to be just like Garth Brooks. He had jobs lined out for everyone in his family, as well as me. I didn’t like what he chose for me, so I told him I’d just wait and write the tell all book and earn my money that way. He didn’t end up famous, (though he still plays in the same band he was in then) but I ended up writing, most of the time it’s all fiction, though now and then I’ll write something true to life.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

Typical day… I get up at 5:45 and get the kids off to school and Hubster off to work. While doing that I do all my ‘playing’ online. Facebook, etc. at 8, once everyone’s gone, I get serious. What exactly that means depends on what stage I’m at. Sometimes it’s solid writing, sometimes It’s reading and revising. Once in a while it’s working on formatting. I work until it’s time to pick up the kids from school, stopping now and then to answer emails or respond to something on my Facebook page. Then depending on the scheduled evening activity, I often keep working through sports practice as well. Once the kids are in bed, if Hubster is home (he sometimes has to work nights or is away from home) we watch TV and relax a little, if he’s not home, I work until I’m tired enough to sleep.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

I love the rush of finishing something, I also love the rush when someone, especially a family member tells me they really loved something I wrote. The most challenging part is working through issues I didn’t realize I had, until it was time for the character to deal with them.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?RobinsNestBN-1

My latest is Robin’s Nest. It’s a stand-alone erotic romance, as in, it’s not part of either of my series, and I have no plans to make it a series of its own.

It’s the tale of Samantha, who goes by Sam, everything’s moving along fine in her life until she’s in a car accident that puts her in a coma for a week. Her best friend, Robin, never left her side. Soon after she awakens to find him there, she realizes that her feelings for him are more than friendship, but is she willing to risk what they already have for something more?

How did you come with the idea for this story?

Honestly? I don’t remember. I wrote this one about four years ago, it was my first novel length story and I wrote it in under 30 days. I’ve revised and rewritten it so many times. I honestly don’t remember what gave me the idea to begin with.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

Currently I’m working on the first full length book in my White Mountain Chanat series. I started it with an erotic short story, Escape, and I’d planned for this one (still untitled) to be longer but along the same lines. My characters had other plans, they’ve informed me that while it will be steamy, it’s gonna take a while to get there, neither of them is willing to fall into bed and let the story play out amongst the sex.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

There are a lot of them, Dean Koontz, Laurell K. Hamilton, Lora Leigh, Jennifer Ashley are the ones that lead the list.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

Of course. I love the sudden twists and turns that Koontz has always had, I always tried to figure it out before he told me. I love the strong, kick ass Anita Blake from Hamilton, I wanna be Anita when I grow up, if only so I can keep Nathaniel. Lora Leigh has some of the hottest erotica I’ve ever read, and that’s saying something. I love Ashley’s relatable characters. Most of them seem like anyone you might meet next door (except for the fact they’re shifters.)

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Nauti Enchantress by Lora Leigh will be out in a couple of months, I’m eager for that one.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Don’t forget to check out my website and all of my books, Robin’s Nest is just my latest.

RobinsNestBN-1

After a car accident puts her in a coma, Samantha awakens to find her best friend, Robin, never left her side.  While she recovers, Sam realizes there’s more between them than just friendship, but she’s afraid. What if it doesn’t work out between them, and it ruins their friendship.

Sam’s brush with death gives her a renewed understanding of how short life really is. Deciding the possible benefits are worth the risk, she faces the challenges from her over-protective family head on and leaps into life with both feet. When more challenges come their way, can Sam and Robin handle them together?

Excerpt:

As I drew closer, I saw Robin push himself off the side of the truck and stand to his full height of 6’1″. He opened his pickup door and reached for something inside. I pulled the Jeep off the highway, and watched as he locked and closed the door then crossed the highway and rounded the Jeep to the passenger side. Robin isn’t a particularly large guy. Yeah, he’s tall, but he’s lean, like the basketball player he’d been in high school. I leaned across the seat and lifted the lock on the door to let him in.

“So, what’s the problem this time?” I asked as he climbed inside and closed the door.

“Damned rotor again,” he replied, tossing his baseball cap with his keys inside onto the dash. He ran his hand through his shaggy blond hair. It stayed back for maybe three seconds before falling on either side of his face again, framing his deep green eyes.

I waited while he buckled his seatbelt, then checked for cars before pulling back onto the highway. Only going far enough to make a U-turn without hitting his truck, before heading back into town.

“I thought you kept an extra one in the glove box for when this happens?” I asked.

“I do, but I used my last one a couple of months ago and I forgot to get more on my next trip to Safford, then I just spaced it.” He ran his hand through his hair again, only to have it fall right back where it started. “Of course, it was about time for Murphy’s Law to smack me upside the head again, so here we are.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Are you about ready to give up on that antique or are you gonna buy another case of rotors for it?” Ribbing Robin about his stubbornly keeping the old pickup, despite its oddities, was an old habit between the two of us. Though we dig at each other and bicker once in a while, I don’t think we’ve had more than two or three real fights in our entire friendship.

“So it eats rotors. So what? They’re cheap. The frame, body, and motor are all in good condition. Why junk a good machine for one small, and relatively inexpensive, inconvenience?” He easily fell right back into the old game.

“It’s broken down, and left you stranded along the side of the road, how many times now?”

“A few,” he admitted, “but I can usually repair the problem in less than fifteen minutes and be back on my way. It’s my own fault I ended up stranded tonight. Besides, if you’d been busy I would have found someone else, or eventually, someone would have come along and given me a ride into town.”

He’s right, someone would have come along. It was barely eight o’clock, and not quite dark yet. However, this wasn’t the most used road out of town and he might have had to wait a couple of hours before someone came along.

“What were you doing out here?” I glanced at him before looking back at the road.

“I was on my way back from a meeting in Lordsburg.”

“That sounds fun.” My tone was dry. I didn’t know what the meeting was for, but if had been something he had enjoyed, he would have shared more about it.

“Any leads on a new job?”

“Not yet.” I shrugged. “I’ll find something, I’m sure. The question is, how long until I do?”

“If you need something to make ends meet, I can put you to work. It’s long hours and muddy as hell, but it’s work.”

“I’ll keep that in mind, thanks. I’ve got a while before I have to worry, though. I have a good chunk in savings and since I don’t have a house payment or rent, it will go a lot farther.”

“That’s true.”

I reminded him that I’d pick him up at eight the next morning as I dropped him off in his driveway. I waited until he made it to the door before turning around and heading home.

Pulling out onto the highway my mind raced ahead. My thoughts were already back at the house. It was only eight thirty, I still had plenty of the evening left. I could settle back onto the sofa, but the thought of a hot bath was even more enticing.

Suddenly, I was drawn back to what I was doing by bright lights directed at my face. I shook my head and barely had time to register the vehicle that was supposed to be in the left lane, it was in mine instead. I had nowhere to go. I couldn’t avoid it. The last thought that went through my mind was “How badly is this gonna hurt?” then everything went black.

Shift Into Passion with Carrie Ann Ryan & Vivian Arend

SHIFT INTO PASSION

This summer two exciting new shifter books in bestselling series hit the shelves. SHATTERED EMOTIONS, Book 5 in the Redwood Pack series & DIAMOND DUST, book 3 in the Takhini Wolves.

ShiftintoPassion

Carrie Ann Ryan and Vivian Arend have joined forces to bring you a few tidbits from their books. Take a minute, and we hope you enjoy!

The theme for this post?

He spots her for the first time

Viv Arend: next topic: the first time he sees her. Did Maddox know Ellie before?

Carrie Ann Ryan: Yes. The first time Maddox saw Ellie was when he was pulling her out of his brother’s arms. She was barely breathing and scared to death. Oh wait…WAS that the first time…?*wink*

Viv Arend: hahah, tricky! Tyler had no idea who Caroline was. Even suspected she might be a SPY.

Carrie Ann Ryan: Spies are fun.

Viv Arend: A spy with lovely…wet shirt. *ahem* Oh, those bears!

Carrie Ann Ryan: They are so cuddly though. Well, maybe not a FEW of those bears. But Tyler? Oh, yeah. I’m sure when he first saw her, spy and all, he wanted to *ahem…cuddle

Viv Arend: lol! Gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘bear hug’

Carrie Ann Ryan:*dreams of Tyler*…Okay I suppose I need to think more about my wolf, eh? Though really, Maddox has always made me swoon. Ellie too.

Viv Arend: I fall in love with everyone of my characters, and that’s just how it should be!

Carrie Ann Ryan: Totally. 🙂 It’s just getting those characters to fall in love with each OTHER that’s the hard part.

Maddox nodded silently and forced his gaze to North’s companion.

Ellie Reyes.

His mate.

Or, at least, his could-be mate. Wolves had a few potential mates out there, some more suited than others, so that didn’t mean when one found that potential they had to mate.

Maddox couldn’t mate Ellie. Though the mating urge had reared up and rode him hard, he hadn’t marked her, hadn’t mated her—despite how desperately he wanted to.

She wasn’t to be his.

His wolf nudged along the inside of his skin, whimpering but, as always, didn’t say anything.

Ellie stood by North’s side, that haunted look in her dark brown eyes reaching out to Maddox. He couldn’t feel her emotions though—just as he couldn’t feel North’s. It could have been considered a blessing, but Maddox was never sure.

He wanted to know what made her tick, what went on in that mind of hers. He wanted to be able to help her, even if he couldn’t bear to be near her.

North gave him a bland look, but Maddox could see his twin clench his jaw. Ellie stared at him as if she wanted him to say something, but he had no idea what.

“We’re already late, guys. We don’t want to be any later,” Cailin said over the rising tension.

Maddox shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts of the woman with dark eyes who could have been his and wasn’t.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Vivian Arend‘s DIAMOND DUST (Takhini Wolves #3) is available at: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Samhain Publishing

A faint scent of human made him turn, but there was no one there. Only the door he’d left open behind him, and at the far side of the deck an open lounging area with a hot tub, the lid strangely askew.

A hand draped over the far edge, just visible from his new position.

Hell.

Tyler raced forward, reached into the water and scooped up the limp body of a blonde woman. Her head had been resting on a drink holder, the only thing that had kept her from becoming completely submerged.

“Wake up, little mermaid.” Tyler cradled her against him. He nudged the door open and brought her inside, dripping wet, examining her face for a reaction. She was breathing, but shallowly. He lowered her onto the couch then pulled a handy throw blanket over her shivering torso. “Can you hear me?”

Interview with Jace from Kait Ballenger’s Twilight Hunter

*Kelly walks into room with small box. Sets box on table and turns to Jace with a wicked smile*

Kelly:  Hi Jace

Jace: Hey, Kelly

Kelly:  Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to sit down and talk with me.

Jace:   Yeah, sure. Frankie asked me to, so you know, I try to please her when I can.

Kelly *looks in box, pulls out bar of soap sets on table*

Jace: *raises an eyebrow* What the hell is that for?

Kelly:  So Jace, from what I have heard & read you have a bit of a foul mouth.  So let play a little game during our interview.

Jace: Yeah, I guess you could say that.

Kelly:  What I have in mind is every time you cuss…

Jace: *raises an eyebrow* You’re going to wash my mouth out with a fucking bar of soap?

Kelly: As I was saying *pulls out handcuffs* Every time you cuss I get to tie something down.  You game?

Jace: Shit. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Kelly:  Oops that is already two, but I will give you one freebie.  Right hand please *holds hand out*

Jace: *sticks out his right hand* I’m trying to bite my tongue here. I’m not sure I like this idea.

Kelly: *handcuffs Jace’s right hand to back of chair* Okay question number one.  Tell me about the Execution Underground.

Jace: Well, I guess I’ll go ahead. Frankie said our author wants us to give full disclosure, so I’ll lay it all on you. I’m a werewolf hunter for the Execution Underground. We’re a secret organization so normal humans don’t know about us

Kelly: So how is your job going for you right now?

Jace: Real shitty. Oh, motherfu— *he clamps his mouth shut*

Kelly: That is number 3.  Left hand please. Jace: *Grumbling, he sticks out his left hand*

Kelly: *Pulls out another set of cuffs and cuffs left wrist to back of chair*

Jace: This is not what I had in mind when Frankie mentioned this interview.

Kelly: Let’s talk about something happier.  Tell me how you met Frankie?

Jace: Well, at the time, I wouldn’t say it was a very happy situation, even though everything is cool now. I was out on a hunt for a sadistic bast— *cuts himself off*…bad guy. Yeah, that’s it bad guy. I was on the hunt for a sadistic bad guy when I came across Frankie. She’s a werewolf, you know, and that’s the type of monster I specialize in hunting, so when she showed up at the scene of the crime in wolf form, I didn’t take to kindly to that. We got into a bit of a scuffle, and then I handcuffed her. *he frowns* It seemed like a bright idea at the time, using her to get to Rochester’s packmaster.

Kelly: *pulls out rope* What is something about Frankie that might surprise the readers?

Jace: That she’s Rochester’s packmaster. I thought Frankie Amato was a dude. I mean, can you blame me? Packmasters are usually guys. She’s the first female one Rochester has ever had. Pretty impressive really.

Kelly: How do you feel about Kait telling your story?

Jace: Kait’s a little too much like me for my own taste sometimes. Not that she drinks or smokes like I do, but she’s just hard-headed and stubborn, and doesn’t take no for an answer. She gives me a dose of my own medicine, which isn’t always fucking pleasant.

Kelly: Number 4 Jace, Right leg…. *ties right leg to chair*   How are things going with you and Frankie?

Jace: Pretty good. Now that Robert, the sadistic freak we were hunting, is out of the picture, things have been pretty peachy.

Kelly: Can you tell us a little bit about how you got started with the EU?

Jace: My father was half-wolf which naturally made me aware of supernatural creatures. I decided to be an idiot and drop out of high school when I was sixteen to get my GED and join the Execution Underground. I’ve been training with them for a damn long time. Can’t say I completely regret it though.

Kelly: Dude, that was number 5, Left leg.  *ties left leg to chair*

Jace: This is starting to test my patience.

Kelly: *pulls out blind fold and gag. Smiles at Jace*

Jace: Are you fucking me?

Kelly: Your choice?  Blind fold or gag?

Jace: *he frowns* Blind fold.

Kelly: *walks behind Jace and puts blind fold on. Whispers* You know, you are really stubborn and I thought for sure that you would win this game.

Jace: I don’t have much when it comes to self control.

*soft click of door*

Kelly: Tell me your favorite thing Frankie

Jace: It’s hard to pick just one favorite thing, you know? She’s a great woman. Smart, good sense of humor, strong, beautiful. She’s the total package. Though I gotta admit when I first saw her in that alleyway, considering she had just shifted into human form and was naked as the day she was born, the first thing that attracted me to her physically was her awesome set of ti—

Kelly: *looks over at Frankie standing by the door and winks, cutting Jace off* —As you can see he didn’t do very well at this challenge.  I think that I will leave him in your hands to teach him a lesson about cussing in an interview.

Jace: Wait a damn second, Frankie’s here?

Kelly:  Bye, Jace. It was great talking to you.  We should do this again.

Jace: Aw, shit. I’m fucking in for it now…

FIRST SURRENDER by Katie Reus

He’s dangerous, sexy, and everything she wants. And he’s about to make his claim…

Hayden, the dangerously sexy, tattooed ex-SEAL is one of the best friends Sierra has ever had—and the main star in her wildest fantasies. But he doesn’t see her that way. And she’d die of embarrassment if he found out she was still a virgin.

Hayden’s struggled to keep his attraction to the beautiful, dark haired casino chef a secret. But when an attacker targets Sierra, Hayden’s protective instincts go into overdrive. With the attraction between them burning out of control, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her and make her his.

EXCERPT FROM KATIE REUS’

Her cheeks flushed a delicious shade of pink as she sat at the table. “Thanks, I appreciate it.”

He grunted, not wanting her appreciation.
“So have you heard anything from Jay or Iris? I know it hasn’t been that long, but I thought they might have found something.” She shivered lightly and Hayden resisted the urge to drag her into his arms and comfort her. He needed to show restraint when she was so vulnerable.
He shook his head as he set a plate of food in front of her. “Unfortunately, no. But give them time.”
Compared to the masterpieces she created, chicken and rice was nothing, but it would fill her up and warm her body. So far she’d been handling everything well, but he was waiting for her adrenaline to crash. Before she fell asleep, he wanted her fed. So when she took a few bites but only pushed her food around with a fork, he frowned.
“Is it that bad or are you not hungry?” he asked before taking a sip of his beer.
“It’s great, I’m just…I don’t know what I am but I’m not really hungry. It’s so sweet that you cooked for me. I’m sorry I screwed up your plans tonight though.” She said the last part in a rush and he didn’t miss the flash of…hurt in her eyes before she masked it.
But that didn’t make sense. “Plans?” He’d only had plans with her. Like every other Thursday for practically the past year.
“Your date.” She set her fork down now, not even pretending to eat.
Hayden blinked at her. What was she talking about? “I didn’t have a date—except with you. It’s Thursday.”
Now she looked confused. “Oh.”
A few things suddenly clicked into place. “You thought I had a date tonight? Is that why you left the security floor upset earlier?”  He’d planned to ask her about it, but then the shit had hit the fan and that had been the least of his concerns.
“I wasn’t upset. I was mad you didn’t just tell me. I wouldn’t have wasted a trip up to the fiftieth floor if I’d known you had plans. But…you really didn’t?” she asked, her voice shaking slightly.
The thought that he might have had a date upset her no matter what she said. He could see it written all over her pretty face. Putting his own fork down, he scooted his chair closer and turned her so that she was facing him directly. He was going to set the record straight. “I don’t know who told you I had a date, but they were mistaken.” Casino gossip was notoriously wrong so he wasn’t surprised someone had come up with that bullshit. Practically everything got twisted out of proportion there. Hell, he’d heard that Sierra had hooked up with two of his security guys and he knew for a fact that wasn’t true. “I haven’t been on a date or fucked anyone since the week I met you.”

Counterterrorist agent Taft Walker is up for the challenge of posing as an adult store owner with a new female undercover partner who is also a sex-toy virgin. At least until he sees the real woman beneath her tough façade.

Border Patrol Agent Zoe Brooks is ready to get off the front lines. She’s willing to tolerate a swaggering partner like Taft for a new opportunity. But she’s not prepared for the way he understands her deepest, sexiest desires.

Outside, the sky was dark, but Zoe still handed out fliers to gather spectators for her bright idea. They’d brought in another agent to pose as a cashier for the “event,” and she busily rang up sales at the register.

Taft glanced at his watch.

It was about time for the show to start.

“Hey, Honcho?” Dalton’s voice came over Taft’s earpiece. The other agent was positioned outside the store near Zoe. “Got some interesting action here.”

“I’m listening.”

“Our fringe players just showed up,” Dalton said, indicating Cantos and Vasquez. “Brooks is chatting them up now.”

“And the interesting part?”

“They’re…not alone.” Dalton hesitated, and Taft waited with clenched teeth and fists. “I’m trying to get a better view, but I’m pretty damned sure they’ve got the target with them.”

“Fuck.” Taft dropped his arms. His brain immediately searched for alternative plans. They hadn’t expected Picasso tonight. “What kind of security has he got with him?”

“Three beefy bouncer types. He’s wearing shades and a fedora, but…I’m pretty sure…”

Taft pushed off the wall. Alarm heated him from the inside out. He focused in on Zoe through the window again, but it was hard to see her with all the people milling around.

“Call three of the six guys in from the perimeter. And call in for backup.”

Taft made his way through the store toward two other agents, a man and a woman posing as a couple.

“Are we taking him now, Honcho?”

Dalton had dubbed Taft Honcho, short for head honcho. “Not unless it goes to shit. Way too many civilians here. I’ll call the boss, then come out to get her.”

“Copy that,” Dalton returned.

Taft paused before he reached the agents where he could see Zoe out the window and dialed Rio on his cell. She stood with her back toward Taft, encircled by men. And even though the body language of the group was loose and easy, even though the men were smiling and chuckling as Zoe spoke and gestured, Taft’s muscles tensed.

He forced his mind to imagine her as any other female partner. Or another male partner who happened to be small in stature. He couldn’t say the nerves were truly equal. He had to admit there was a personal element to his concern. But he felt better knowing he would still be acting just as cautiously even if it weren’t Zoe. Neither of them could afford to be weak in the heat of things.

“What’s up?” Rio answered.

“The target’s here with three bodyguards.”

“That was fast.”

“Too fast. We’re not prepared. Zoe’s idea was a little too popular. This place is packed. We don’t have enough men or enough of a plan to take him now. I need a team to follow him when he leaves.”

“Hold on.”

Rio got on another phone and ordered an undercover team to rendezvous at the mall with Taft’s agents to tail Picasso, then returned to Taft’s call.

“You got it,” Rio said. “This could work out even better. If we can follow him to where they’ve got him stashed, we can take him there. Keep your eye on him and hold tight. I’ve alerted SWAT.”

Taft pocketed his phone, released a long breath, and approached the agents. The woman, Aurora, had discovered a portable vibrator disguised as a tube of lipstick and was checking the vibration strengths against her palm.

“This is nifty,” she said to Taft when he stopped.

“A good seller too,” he said, still searching for a decent view of Zoe. “Listen, the target’s here.” Both agents instantly focused on Taft. “I don’t know if he’s going to come in, but he’s got muscle with him. I’ve called in guys from the perimeter and backup. But we’re in defense mode, got it? Nothing is going down here tonight. Too many people.”

Both agents nodded.

“I’m going to bring Brooks in and get this party started.”

Interview with Maisey Yates

unexpected2

Today I have Maisey Yates here to discuss her new release, Unexpected, which is the second release in her Silver Creek series.  I love this series because it is based here in Oregon and I have already told Maisey, I want to live on Cole’s Elk Haven ranch.  I hope everyone checks out this delightful series.

1. Tell me about your new release

Unexpected is a story about two people who have never met before…having a baby together. When Cole finds out that a clinic mix-up has resulted in a total stranger conceiving his child, he knows he can’t walk away. But figuring out how to deal with the stubborn – and sexy, mother of his baby is another issue entirely.

2. Where did you come with the idea for this series?
I love the idea of the IVF mix-up, because it takes the classic idea of the accidental pregnancy to a whole new place. These are two people who have NEVER met, having a baby together. But it was actually a picture of a cowboy that inspired this series. From there, I thought of Cole Mitchell, and his brother and sister. After that it was a matter of figuring out just who the perfect woman for him was…

3. Were there any kind of challenges to writing a small-town romance and what type of research did you have to do?
I am small town, so for me there was a level of comfort and familiarity to the small-town world that is absent from the category romance I write, which tend to be glamorous and urban. I love writing small town because it’s what I know.
4. What are you working on now?

I’m working on book 3 in the Silver Creek series, which is titled Unbroken and is scheduled for an August 2014 release. This is Cade’s story. You’ll meet Cade in Unexpected.

5. Which actors do you envision playing your characters?

That’s a tough one! Maybe…Henry Cavill and Cameron Diaz?

6. Any advice for aspiring writers?
Yes! Keep trying…and keep writing. Always write. If you submit something? Write something new. Writing is the best way to learn HOW to write, at least in my experience. 😉
7. What food or drink do you absolutely have to have while writing?

Coffee and marshmallows. 😀 Everyone on my twitter knows that!

About the Author:
IMG_7155
USA Today Bestselling author Maisey Yates lives in rural Oregon with her three children and her husband, whose chiseled jaw and arresting features continue to make her swoon. She feels the epic trek she takes several times a day from her office to her coffee maker is a true example of her pioneer spirit.

In 2009, at the age of twenty-three Maisey sold her first book. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of sexy alpha males and happily ever afters, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Maisey divides her writing time between dark, passionate category romances  set just about everywhere on earth and light sexy contemporary romances set practically in her back yard. She believes that she clearly has the best job in the world.

Jennifer’s Review of Unexpected

unexpected2TITLE: Unexpected

SERIES #: Silver Creek #2

CHARACTERS: Kelsey Noble and Cole Mitchell

AUTHOR:  Maisey Yates

PUBLICATION DATE:  08/20/13

ORDER LINKS:  Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS: After spending another family wedding fielding questions about her non-existent love life, Kelsey Noble decides she’s tired of waiting around for things she could go out and get herself.  What Kelsey wants is a baby, and she doesn’t see any point waiting for a husband she’s not even sure she wants.  But a mix-up at the fertility clinic lands her with a hassle she didn’t count on.  A big, muscular hassle in a Stetson and cowboy boots.

Cole Mitchell is shocked to discover that a grand gesture for years past has come back to haunt him.  Now, thanks to a clerical error, a woman he’s never met is having his baby–and there’s no way he’s going to walk away and forget he has a child.

Trying to make nice with the unexpected father of her baby lands Kelsey in Silver Creek, Oregon, dealing with the kind of small town life she left behind years ago.  Even worse is dealing with the burning attraction she feels for Cole.  She knows adding sex to the mix is a very bad idea, but she’s not sure how long she can resist falling for the last man she ever expected.

REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Jennifer             NUMBER OF STARS: Four Stars

REVIEW: I liked Kelsey right away because she had a lot of spunk and determination by making a decision to have a child on her own. She had the means to support a child and felt that she didn’t need a man to make her life complete.  I understood her surprise to find that her anonymous donor wasn’t so anonymous when Cole Mitchell showed up on her doorstep. I liked that even though it was a mistake at the clinic, Cole and Kelsey were determined to get to know each other for the sake of the child.  They both were hoping that this could turn into something more so they could both be involved in the child’s life.

Cole Mitchell was a handsome cowboy who had his hands full with the responsibility of handling his family’s ranch. Meeting Kelsey wasn’t what he had planned especially when he was still reeling from the mess that was his previous marriage.  He was sweet and bound to make sure that Kelsey was taken care of during her pregnancy.  I liked how when Kelsey practically threw herself at him that he wanted to take things slow and not rush things because he wanted to have a relationship with her.  You don’t see that very often in books where the guy is slowing things down instead of the girl. Cole was exactly what Kelsey was looking for and it took a clerical error to bring two special people into her life instead of just one.

I adored Unexpected because it was a sweet romance in a small town setting.  I really enjoyed Maisey’s first one, Unbuttoned and this new one is definitely a winner.  I can’t wait to read more about Cole’s sister, Lark, in the next book, Untouched, because she is due for a happy ending as well.
