BOOK SYNOPSIS:
First published in 1959, Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror. It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a “haunting”; Theodora, his lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers—and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts Hill House has sat empty for many years and many have said that it should be burned to the ground.
Let me start by saying the book is WAY different then the tv series. Some of the characters are the same and a few events are the same but other than that way, way different. So if you are planning to read this based on the TV series you have been warned.
The book dives into the past more and some events that lead to Hill House being haunted. But even with that the story is a little slow to start. It takes a bit for the story to really pick up steam and get to the good parts. But I can see why this has been a fan favorite for so many years. I am glad that I picked up the original version to see what inspired the TV series (which I loved).
