47% for income tax on gold found on their own property? That bothers me! But I don’t know all the rules or why they are written the way they are. Maybe I would move to another country if I found that much! Anyway, I am really looking forward to reading this series!

    • Kate Carlisle February 11, 2015 at 8:27 pm #

Isn’t that shocking? And that was whether they sold the gold or not. I was really surprised when I read that.

I love cozy mysteries. I would try to sell the treasure. I would hate to pay income tax on something like that. Reminds me of a story about a person finding money in their attic walls.

    • Kate Carlisle February 11, 2015 at 8:28 pm #

It seems so odd to me, too, Michelle, that something found would be considered “income.”

  10. Jenne February 11, 2015 at 3:20 pm #

If the treasure is found on your property, I don’t think you should pay taxes on it.

  11. Kay February 11, 2015 at 4:18 pm #

I love Kate Carlisle and love this new series. Great review. Who wouldnt love to find a big treasure trove! I would sell it and give most of the money to everyone I know. Saving enough for me and my pup though, lol.

What a nice dilemma that would be, to find a treasure and then decide what to do with it! Not sure I like the income tax thing tho! Great series, can’t wait to read this one.

Of course I’d hide it. I’d package it up and find a way to move it to a country that doesn’t let government’s snoop in the records. I’d have a vault box and occasionally arrange to sell off a piece or two. Then live quietly on that till I needed more. I’d also have the best attorney money could by on a retainer.

  19. Gram February 12, 2015 at 7:36 am #

  35. holdenj February 13, 2015 at 11:09 am #

Sunken treasure and a cozy! What a great duo!
I think if it could be determined that no one else had a claim to the treasure, you should be able to keep it.

  36. Rachael Brown February 13, 2015 at 11:02 pm #

If I found treasure I don’t believe that I should have to pay taxes on it. However, I would research and find out if I was required to report it. I am a rule follower and would constantly worry if I thought that I was doing something illegal.

  37. Maureen February 15, 2015 at 6:34 am #

If I found treasure I would definitely find out if it was mine before I did anything with it.
