Book-n-Kisses is pleased to be a part of Jennifer & Vicky’s 8 Days of Desire tour….
Hi Ladies,
Thank you for stopping a Books-n-Kisses on your tour. We are excited to have you both here today…
Are you ready to get started?
VD: Yes, I’m sufficiently caffeinated.
JH: Sure!
BnK: For my readers who may not know you please tell me a little about yourself
VD: My mom says I have had a “wild” imagination since the age of two. She tells all of her friends at the retirement community about my books. I have a grown son & daughter. My sister-in-law Vanessa & my daughter Amber read my books. My previous jobs include admin (I was terrible at it), aerobics instructor (it was fun), and market research analyst. The best part of the marketing job was getting to travel to New York, London, Paris, and many other great cities.
JH: I am a mom of three and live in California with my family. I love writing historical romance!
BnK: Tell us about your newest release.
VD: WHAT A WICKED EARL WANTS is the first book in the new SINFUL SCOUNDRELS series. The story features the rakish and tormented Earl of Bellingham (aka Bell) whom readers might remember as a minor character in HOW TO RAVISH A RAKE. Bellingham is on the hunt for a new mistress and finds himself caught up in the life of the beautiful widow Laura Davenport, a vicar’s daughter with a rebellious stepson. When her son’s guardian threatens to take the boy away, a desperate Laura turns to Bellingham for assistance.
JH: THE DUCHESS HUNT is the first book in my new series, The House of Trent. I like to say this is my series about the most dysfunctional family in Regency England! The series tells the story of the Duke of Trent, his four brothers, and his sister. When their mother mysteriously disappears, the duke and his siblings come together to try to find her. Here’s a blurb for THE DUCHESS HUNT:
Simon Hawkins, duke of Trent, is no stranger to scandal. Rumors and innuendo have darkened the House of Trent for decades, and it has fallen to Simon to restore his tattered family name. He lives by a strict code of honor, but when he is called home to investigate his mother’s disappearance, the distinguished duke will tangle with temptation. For there waits the only woman he has ever loved-and the last woman he should desire . . .
Sarah Osborne has spent her life dreaming of Simon’s touch. But dukes do not long for lady’s maids-or so Sarah believes, until a stolen kiss sparks a passion that could be her ultimate undoing. As the couple begins a forbidden romance, a cunning enemy plots to destroy the duke and everything he loves. Now, caught in a blackmailer’s web, Simon faces an agonizing choice: sacrifice his family’s future or break Sarah’s heart.
BnK: Please open your book and read us a few lines.
VD: She entreated Bellingham with her eyes. “It is Montclief, Justin’s guardian. “Please, say nothing of Justin to him,” she said in a low tone.
“Why?” he said. “If he is the guardian—”
“Please,” she said, aware that her voice shook. There is no time to explain. I will do anything you ask, but I beg you not to betray me.”
He arched his brows. “Anything?”
“Yes, anything,” she said, worrying her hands.
He snared her with his blue eyes. “Be careful what you promise.”
JH: “Sarah, look at me.” He cupped her hands in his palms, and warmth instantly flushed through her, combating the cold.
“I…Sarah, I want you. But I don’t want to hurt you. I’m not the kind of man who…uses women.”
“I know you’re not.” One of the reasons she adored him.
“So you see why we can’t, why I can’t…?”
“I’m not a fool, Your Grace,” she said softly. Sarah knew that no matter what happened between them, no matter what power he had over her, Simon would never take advantage of her. “I know what I am doing. What I want.”
Simon flinched. “I don’t want to ruin you.”
“I know,” she whispered. “But sometimes I wish you did.”
BnK: Can you share with us your current work in progress
VD: The next two books in the SINFUL SCOUNDRELS series are WHAT A RECKLESS ROGUE NEEDS and WHAT A DEVILISH DUKE DESIRES
JH: I’m working on THE SCOUNDREL’S SEDUCTION, book 3 in the House of Trent series. This book is about Simon’s older half brother, Sam. Sam is the rock of the family, the warrior, but when he tangles with a woman who might be a traitor for France, his world is rocked right off its axis!
BnK: If you were stranded on a deserted island what are the three items you would have to have to survive.
VD: Wi-Fi, My Samsung Galaxy Phone & 4G LOL. How else will I get rescued?
JH: Books to read, my comfy pillow, and a year’s supply of vanilla lattes. Wait, you didn’t mean for real, did you???
BnK: Thank you Ladies…The wonderful Vicky & Jennifer and their publisher have given me two copies of each book. So that means two lucky followers will get a copy of each book. To enter please fill out the rafflecopter form below. Good luck!
Great interview. I love both of your books.
What I love about historicals is that you get to “travel” to difference places and times as you following the couple on their journey of falling in love.
I love the escapism of the stories and the HEA! Warm Fuzzies! Love the chance to visit places I’ve never been and probably will never have the chance to visit.
Question for both ladies: I’ve heard it said so many times that the first line of a book must grab the reader’s attention in order for the reader to continue. Is that all important first line actually the first line you write? Or do you get your story started and go back later to discover what will be the perfect first line?
Karen,
The first line of WHAT A WICKED EARL WANTS is the original line I wrote in the initial draft. So here it is: “Andrew Carrington, the Earl of Bellingham, was on the hunt for a new mistress.”
Cheers!
Hello again to Vicky and Jennifer! I hope you’re enjoying this promotional blog hop…I sure am! I find out a little bit more about both of you each day and I think I’ll be sad when it’s over . . . I’m so thrilled that I have two new authors to read from. Regency has always been my BFF for reading…I think I dream in Regency! 🙂 Continue to have fun, you two. jdh2690 at gmail dot com
I forgot to tell you what I like best about historical romances. Well. Part of it is the love of history and part of it is my love for fantasy (I mean, I don’t believe in time travel, but I sure wish it were real ’cause I’d love to go back to Regency England and tootle around), and part of it is the HEA endings. Reading historical romance mellows me out and I also sleep so much better at night! Jan
Janice,
My fascination with the past started when I read Little House on the Prairie and Little Women. In junior high, I discovered Victoria Holt, and I got hooked on books set in England.
What i like from historical is the blast to the past 😉
Sienny that is the fun part for me, too.
I love the morals and the quality of life depicted in historical romances.
Hi Betty,
The fun part about Regency proprieties is figuring out how the characters will get around all those rules. 🙂
Haven’t as of yet read your books, but they sound wonderful!!!
What I love about historicals is that you get to “travel” to difference places and times as you following the couple on their journey of falling in love.
Laurie,
It’s a lot of fun to take the characters to different places in London and other places. It’s interesting the things that you don’t know until you experience them. For example, the first time I walked on cobbled streets in London I was stunned athow uncomfortable it was, and I was wearing comfy shoes. It gives you a whole new perspective to what their lives might have been like.
Historical romances have been my favorite for a long time now. I feel in love with them because they took me to another time and place and I learned so much about the time period, clothes, mannerisms, etc. I never tire of reading them and always sigh when I reach the end of the book.
Looking forward to reading both of these novels by these two wonderful authors. Thank you so much for the great giveaway!
All the best!
I love traveling back in time to see how things were done. What we wore, how we acted and all. Can’t wait to read these books! Thanks for the chance to win!!!
Johanna,
Some of the clothing is gorgeous. I have a book with photos of some of the actual dresses–the intricate details are incredible.
“Wi-Fi, My Samsung Galaxy Phone & 4G.” Good one Vicky. Great interview. Learned a lot of things.
Maria,
I swear my smart phone is smarter than me. 😉
I love the escape from the hectic pace of modern life. Things moved at a slower pace. Technology has pushed us to a frantic speed that I need a pleasant and relaxing break from at times.
Sebella,
It is so true. Why is it that our lives are more frantic, even though we have all of this technology to supposedly make our lives easier?
Love both of you….
I love “time traveling” to the past and learning about the history, the dress, and the mannerisms of the day.
Congrats, ladies, on the new releases and the great interviews. Can’t wait to read the books. Thanks for the giveaway.
Thanks so much for sharing! I love HR b/c I like being transported back to a more romantic time.
I want to say both you ladies are great. I love your books. The interview was funny and informative lol. Thanks for the giveaway fingers crossed.
Great interview~! I love Historical romance~ I love the love story and the history behind them. Men in cravats and breeches…of course! 😉
Historical romances taken you a time that you can only imagine thru books and movies plus I also learn things about history and how people lived in past times.
I love both Authors and their books. This is such a great opportunity. Historical Romance is my favorite. I love anything to do with History and I love that the Authors can take us back in time and we can connect wit the characters and be part of the past.
Carol L
Love both authors and their books. I used to be a contemporary romance reader but over the course of the past several years I have become a huge historical fan. I love the clothes and chivalry.
the types of characters
I like seeing what it was like in different time periods.
bmndshuler(at)hotmail(dot)com
I love the history setting, the rules and manors. The clothing is beautiful.
I love historicals because it’s something I can never experience in real life. And maybe I wouldn’t want to anyway! I would probably ending up emptying chamber pots all day long!!!
What I love the most about historical romances is majority of them have very happy endings 🙂 I’m a sucker for HEAs!
These both sound good! I love a good HEA!
Since I love history and learning about how people lived and I love romance stories, a combination of the two is just a natural thing for me to enjoy.
I love historical romances because you get to go to a different time, you can learn something and have fun reading st the same time all without leaving the house.
I like the different manners, the (often) larger-than-life heroes, and the escape into the past.
they are such a great escape!
Thanks for the interview. I like reading historical romances for the HEA. It’s also interesting to read about other eras and places.
I enjoy the different social mores, the different fashions, and the history, itself.
I love going back in time…how even the way people spoke was different. What was considered rude back then and what their manners and the high fashions were:)
Mmm…. Thierry Pepin on the cover of one book and Paul Marron on the other!
I love reading historical romance, because I can escape to a different time and a different world. Thanks for the great giveaway!
