What Money Can’t Buy, the sequel to Expectations, finds the two couples, Chris and Aiden and Matt and Carley, eagerly anticipating parenthood. However, their personal struggles continue. Though Matt overcame his dependency on alcohol, new temptations present themselves. And with Carley on bed rest, these temptations put a greater strain on their relationship. Chris continues to deal with issues regarding his father. These issues increase with greater proximity. When tragedy strikes, the best and worst in everyone is revealed. Can they stick together, or will their reactions tear them apart?
My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this story. We picked up where we left off in Expectations with the twins having to take care of their ill father. So much is going on in this story. Chris and Aiden are waiting for the babies to arrive, but while they wait tragedy strikes again. Aiden gets hurt. These two have such a wonderfully strong relationship and seem to be able to work through any problem by being open and honest with each other. Chris and Aiden go on a roller coaster ride in this book that will test their relationship like never before. But I do believe they will come out the other side stronger than ever.
Matt is awaiting the birth of his baby also. But unlike his twin and Aiden, Matt is not open and honest with his girlfriend. Both Matt and Carley hide their feeling and fears from each other to the point that you don’t know if they will ever be able to get back to a happy place.
I did really enjoy this story. I think that I liked this book more than Expectations merely for the fact that I felt more connected to the characters. I know their back stories and was rooting for them the whole way through this book. I can’t wait for the next book to see what Liz has in store for these characters.
