BOOK SYNOPSIS: Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison –even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

REVIEW: I am absolutely in love with this series! This is the second book in The Lunar Chronicles and it picks up right after the events of “Cinder.” We find that Cinder has now been imprisoned and will soon be turned over to the deadly and devious Queen Levana who wants nothing other than to kill Cinder for her pure enjoyment. When Cinder finally does escape, she takes on the most unlikely of partners in her quest for freedom and to stay far out of the reach of the wicked Queen. I enjoyed every minute of this novel and I loved how there were two characters perspectives, Cinder and the introduction of Scarlet, who holds the key to Cinder’s past and true identity. Scarlet was an interesting character because she was so responsible at such a young age and was willing to do anything to find her grandmother who had been kidnapped and was being held hostage. I am looking forward to seeing how Scarlet’s and Wolf’s relationship develop after the events of “Scarlet” because there are so many unanswered questions and we don’t know Wolf’s true motives for helping Scarlet. You can also start to see how the pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together in regards to Cinder’s past and what it means for her future. I am also glad that Cinder has finally decided that enough was enough and it is time for her to take a stand instead of running away from everything. This is such an exciting book full of action and suspense and it will have you rooting for Scarlet and Cinder until the very last page. I will definitely be counting the days until the next book, Cress, is released next year.
