Guest Blog (&giveaway) with Joely Sue Burkhart

You Know You’re An Avid Ebook Reader When…

* You have several hundred (thousand?) ebooks on the device, but can’t decide on anything to read. So you buy a new one.

* You’re getting ready for a trip and the first thing you do is charge your reader.

* Then you buy more books for the trip! Because you simply *can’t* run out of books on the plane…

* The “one-click” owns half your monthly income.

* To finish an exciting series, you’ve drained the battery on your reader, your phone, and finally switched to the computer because you can’t wait for the device to recharge.

* You buy a purse because it’s the perfect size for your reader.

* You might have bought a book while on the toilet.

Are you an avid ebook reader? Where’s the funniest place you’ve ever bought a book?

One commenter will win a free copy of The Bloodgate Warrior!

Celebrating ebooks, I’m running a “Save An Ent – Read an Ebook” Giveaway where you can win your choice of an eReader.

Details are on my blog.

I’m also offering a free read, Bloodgate, if you’d like a taste of the underlying Maya mythology used throughout the books!

As the Mayan hero Técun lay dying, a sorceress cast a spell tying her bloodline to him, so that one day he could return and avenge their people…

Following a near-death experience, Cassandra Gonzales is haunted by erotic dreams of a mysterious man. As the dreams intensify, she is compelled to travel to Guatemala in search of him. There she learns that her blood has opened a gate—and she is the only one who can bring the great warrior back from the afterlife.

Once faced with Técun in the flesh, Cassie fears the need he stirs within her. She aches to submit to the pleasure he promises, but first she must learn to trust in him, and in her own desires. Their time for sensual exploration is brief—Técun’s killer has escaped, intent on sacrificing Cassie and wreaking havoc on the world. Now, only Cassie’s complete and willing surrender to Técun will give him the power to defeat the demon once and for all…

I take my tablet everywhere and I buy books all the time – I have about 850 books on my tablet right now and another 200 on my kobo ereader. Then there are the paper books 🙂

I’m pretty sure I’m going to hell for this too, but my mother drug me to some church event she was doing, so I basically disapeared on her and read. My goal was to finish my book becasue I was right at the end, but it ended on a cliff hanger so I had to buy the next one and read on. I mean really whats a gal supposed to do. Needless to say I have not been invited to another event by my mom. Thx for giveaway.

    Hi Joely Sue!

What a treat to “run into you” today! You forgot to add “ways I hide my Kindle from my husband/boyfriend so he doesn’t fill it with all his e-books!”

Have you ever gone to finish reading a book on your Kindle, turned it on and been connected instead to “The Complete Encyclopedia of (fill in:Baseball Football, Golf, Wrestling, etc.)?

Since I work I have to find creative times to be able to read and whether it’s at the bank, grocery store, drug store or even the dreaded lines at the DMV I love my Kindle because I can “Read While I Wait”! Now if I can just wrest it out of my husband’s hands I’ll be all set! I really need another e-reader!

Great post! I can’t really think of any strange places where I have purchased an ebook – most of the time just pretty much buy them when I’m online or when I’m reading and decide I need another book if its a part of a series – I’m pretty good about reading up on new releases before they come out and having a wishlist setup.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

I brought my nook to my divorce hearing. You wait forever to see the judge. Thanks for the giveaway!

OMG!!! That post is perfect!!! That perfectly describes my Kindle addiction 🙂 I literally looked over my shoulder to make sure that you weren’t standing there watching me… lol…

    umm… the strangest place I’ve ever bought a book… probably in a doctor’s waiting room 🙂

I love, love, love, love, love my Kindle. Take it everywhere… my new qualifications for purses does include that they have to fit the Kindle… I have a separate checking account strictly for my Kindle purchases (that way I don’t “read” myself out of bill money)… I love that I can hide the 1000’s of books that I’ve bought… I’m a sucker for the Kindle freebies… even though there’s no possible way that I can really, truly read all of them and I know that most of them stink,I hate to pass one up in case it’s awesome and I didn’t buy it when it was free.

We might need to create a secret handshake/symbol for us diehard e-reader addicts!

That is too funny! I am totally with you on the whole ebook thing. 🙂
I am sure that I have purchased one in the bathroom also.
I have also been known to read at red lights while driving.
Love the blurb. This sounds like an intriguing story. Thank you for the chance to read it.

I can’t really think of any funny spots that I might have bought a book. I did have some people laughing because I packed by Kindle and was reading while doing my physical therapy exercises. Three of the books were yours (the Connaghers trilogy).

Ha, sounds like we’ve got a lot of ebook addicts here! Thank you for all your comments. I’m thankful for my Kindle every single day.

This week I’ve been in the home office for the Evil Day Job for training. Every time we’ve had a ten min break, I’ve been pulling up the Kindle app on my phone!

I love my nook and I resemble that ereader person. The strangest place I bought a book on my nook was in the check out line at the grocery store. Because my WiFi was not set up at our new house yet.

I forgot my question for Joey.
Do you have a day job or are you lucky enough to write full time?

  14. elaing8 August 7, 2012 at 4:00 pm #

I am an ebook reader.I can’t even begin to count how many ebooks I have. But I don’t have a funny place where I bought a book.

  15. adis August 7, 2012 at 7:26 pm #

Great post and congratz or the new release!!! Definitely an ebook reader, I have hundreds in my shelves.

  16. Linda August 7, 2012 at 7:46 pm #

I buy both ebooks as well as printed; I must be the odd one out here. I hvn’t even gotten myself a proper ebook reader (yet!) but read on my PC. I’m still hesitant to commit myself ($$) to an ebook reader due to geo restrictions on books since I’m from Asia. Amazon/Kindle doesn’t like us 🙁

  17. DANIELA August 7, 2012 at 7:54 pm #

OMG! Almost all of them describe me!!!! I have a lot of books and I keep buying more and sometimes I just can’t decide what to read Sometimes I have to refrain from buying books just because the price is “low”. I really enjoyed this post 🙂

Oh, hahahahaha! Your post was toooo funny, Joely! 🙂 I’m always clicking on those ebooks on Amazon that are free. Even if it’s not your genre, it’s, you know, FREE. It’s a compulsion!

  23. Yel August 13, 2012 at 7:22 pm #

What a funny post! The toilet hahaha

Well, in the hypothetical case that I had a Kindle, probably buy a book while I’m in one of my trips to the mountains, always carry a book, if I had a Kindle, take it with me. I am a biologist, after all.

That was a great list and I think you can never have too many books to choose from.

  27. Carin W August 14, 2012 at 6:16 pm #

That list was so me LOL I have to guess the strangest place I have ever bought a book was in the tub, or in the pick up lane to get kids from school, no I know it has to be the time I bought one while waiting for my groceries to be rung up at the grocery store. :O) Carin

I see the rafflecopter says this contest is over. Thank you for the free prequel book. I can’t wait to read it. Bloodgate Warrior sounds like a fantastic read.
I loved the list, very funny. I can say that I’ve never bought a book while on the toilet. I’ve read while on the toilet, don’t know if that counts or not. I have millions of print books and yes, sometimes I can’t anything to read so I have to buy something new.
Ebooks is a great way to stay green and not chop down the trees.

I’m pretty boring. Since my e-reader’s an iPod touch, I’m tethered to Wifi when it comes to buying books. Most have been purchased on my laptop.

  30. SheriV August 20, 2012 at 2:29 pm #

You’ve described me perfectly when I had my Nook 3G, and I’m still just as bad these days I just do the buying from home, or wifi hotspots. lol I think I’m getting close to that 1000 mark, shhh! Don’t tell my husband. 😛
